The only thing that has me perplexed is that this was put out by a relatively known group, and that I see it being moved around. Normally bad material gets nuked real quick and never gets a chance to spread. The groups love to one up each other and take any chance they can to shit on someone elses releases, it leads to good policing within the community itself. I dont see how something like this could have slipped under the radar, esp with it being something as huge as a Metallica pre-release. I would have expected RNS or PMS to get this one out. Who knows.

RNS or Rabid Neurosis, is arguably the largest and oldest mp3 group out there. To say they are prolific would be a gross understatement. There is a senior member of RNS on this board, I wont say who it is though. Im sure the RIAA would love to nail this group more than any other. I am sure they have cost the music industry millions.

At times.

Usually its as easy as having someone who works in distro who is sending shit out to stores a week or so in advance. People get promos, people steal shit, there are any number of ways to get something before it hits the stores.

Can you imagine how many hands a cd in production must pass through before it hits the store? All it takes is one guy and a computer to undermine it all.

The release groups get the stuff from lots of sources, studio leaks, also the shops that get the CD some days before being for sale (so it' can be available on the release date), also the CD pass throught lots of hands before hitting the shops, the factories that create the CD etc etc. That guys get some things in exchange, mostly of times access to dups to download what they want forever and for free, sometimes even money from the bigger groups, is like a competition to be the best release group, the best curry group etc.
I have been there, as courier for fun and for trades charts, at RTSMP3. Was really fun to see your nick at the top of the scene magazines, good for your ego, then one day you realize you're just expending your time for nothing, that day you become 10 years older

The extent of my involvement. I have a server that I let a group use as a dump, so technically I am a siteop. But the groups I deal with only deal in metal, punk, etc. I give them bandwidth, they give me as much free music as I can download. And as a music junky, its like getting free drugs. Every day I wake up and check the dump and its like christmas time.

that is true, I am just wondering how these groups like RNS or PMS seem to have their hands everywhere. That is what surprises me. no matter what I search for, I mostly will get a RNS 192KBit version somewhere. Any idea how many people are in that group?

Nice, i have run some small sites as siteop at that time and i were nuker at some rated sites too, but i did the european scene and all my boxes are now in USA so i'm not so usefull as dump for them

anyway i'm out of the scene now.

If I wanted to and if my engineer/studio friends were assholes we could do some awful things, bands like TOOL, Tom Petty, Slash, Danzig and numerous others frequent a studio my best friend works in, he has access to all the recordings. But chooses not to be malicious and lose his place in the industry, he didnt get to where he is by lacking trust and honesty.

I am surrounded by 3 major recording studios. Track Record (Slayer), Larrabee Studios (TOOL), and RUMBO RECORDERS ( Guns and Roses, KISS.

I love Studio City.
