I remember 20 years ago, the "major" pain in the ass I thought it was to deal with 800x600 and 1024x768 resolutions.

IE 6, 7 , 8 causing me nightmares.

Round corners were an issue, and PNG's needed a hack to work!


Here we are 20 years later, and there's INFINITE screen sizes and 2343124 other different variables.

sometimes I do miss the 'good ol days'

I've gone from ulead master, to photoshop king.. CSS master to Full stack dev, and its just getting more and more fucked up to deal with hahahahah

Anyone else miss exporting sliced photoshop images for big coin lol - seems so easy in retrospect.

I also miss jquery... I mean its still in typical stacks, but Its been years since Ive really just been able to bang some genius shit out with that.

Fucking build scripts, grunt, gulp, webpack , react, vue - ruining all my fun.

I do really miss just FTPing in and fucking with live code... for fun every now and then I'll do it on a live site to make the juniors cry - works like a charm.

I use jquery as base for AJAX processing, so it is still in big usage. As if you want to get anything to pass from browser to server, you need to have it.

I still use jQuery as well. 15 years in and I still chuckle at how easy jQuery makes my life. Why switch if I already like what I use and it works wonderfully for anything I need to do. With my most recent project however I switched from jQuery's AJAX to use the native JS method fetch() instead.

CSS3 is amazing as is. You can do animations, filtering, and all kind of creative shit that you previously had to use JS for. And now with grid and flex you don't even need to use media queries anymore.

When you go quasi-responsive (fixed dimensions within breakpoints), this isn't much of an issue.

Honestly, as a publicist that started in the AVN art department, what bugs me is you could count on a general size to submit art at for about anything, like 640x480. Now it feels the adult news sites don't even know what size their photos are supposed to be (thankfully I get a heads up from AVN now and again on their size preferences.

At one point, I could just do a screencap at 100%, and use that as a template, but even that doesn't really work anymore.

the tech is not nearly as important as traffic and connections. all of us have played with the latest languages and tech. i've built a skype clone, dropbox clone, cloud and cdn networks. i've built internal systems for massive companies and telcos.

Well, There's been not much new to happen in this biz since I walked away, but that said
Im not shitting on Adult, I just didnt enjoy freelance, and quite enjoy a mainstream, full time gig.

Freelance, is what makes me want to slit my wrists ;) to clarify.
Consistency is a god send.

i understand that. i would have gone mainstream if i didn't build a product or it didn't provide a good income. i was in mainstream corporate dev before i moved to porn 20 years ago when i was hired by Hegre.

a lot happens all the time tho, just not much happens in adult tech. new clients, new customers and demographics, new niches. that's the interesting part that keeps most people in the industry.
