lol, I'm such a chick, my friends mean everything to me. esp since I can't see my fam (thanks covid, no way I'm gonna risk the health of my 70-something parents catching the rona on a plane)

I think there's a cultural element to male loneliness, that article def doesn't apply in the Caribbean. men in the islands spend a lot of time together, whether it's playing football, going to the beach, playing dominoes or just shooting the shit on the street corner. my ex was the most anti-social person I've ever known, but even he played football with his friends almost every weekend

the topic is def more relevant to North America. interesting article. I think the best advice is to just get out of the house. more difficult with curfews and lockdowns (and our jobs) but can be done, I'd argue should be, as isolation is def not make for health or happiness for anyone

How can I poosibly be lonely, when I make a new 'friend' everyday at around 8.am, and if I'm lucky, another 'friend' in my pants during the day?

Plus there's a number of social clubs where I can get to 'connect' with real people, all over the area, and because they only cost 30 pence, (Less than half a £) even i can a4d2 visit them...

Same here. No friends really, and for sure no one hanging around pretending to be my friend.

I work or ride around on one of my bikes or go out in the mountains with my dog....

Might be culturally linked to 'hunting' in the old days. Warmer climates, Savanah etc, the men tend to hunt in packs. The main way to hunt was and is persistence hunting. Men can go farther then an animal in a days time. The men would follow the animal until it collapsed.

Colder, mountainous climates men tend to hunt alone or very small groups. Trapping or tracking. American Indians hunted in packs but not the northern types.

Not sure about Eskimos.

I am not lonely but yes life has become monotonous. Like you are stuck in a time frame. I feel like this.

As far as loneliness is concerned, the article forget a valid point that is what if you don't have a girlfriend? Your parents are far away and your friends are busy with their married life. It should also be considered.

It is also curse of modern era - before mobile phones/internet it was perfectly normal to drop by someone house, but these days unless you announce yourself before someone could go crazy because of it.

The weird epidemic of obsession with shallow politics has increased the loneliness in America by so much.

I think it is tragic that there are people with such severe Trump Derangement Syndrome that they would destroy relationships with friends and family...yet none of them can name three Trump policies they disagree with which were new and anything they ever cared about before.

I never chose friends and associates based on politics and almost nobody in California knew the least bit about politics when I first got there. They still know next to nothing, but so many have deluded themselves into thinking they are passionate about the relationships between rich strangers they will never meet.

I personally vote policy, not party, but I don't really like to think about politics, unless there is literally an election coming up.
