Duke, I agree that the cross traffic and money potential is great when managed properly. However all too often the rewards only favor the paysite owners and its nearly impossible for the consumer to obtain the refund from the site, forcing them to file a claim (charge back). You being proactive with the members is the exception and not the rule.

Today I would precheck the upsell, only if it's boldly upfront smack in the middle of different plans, and all paysite parties have agreed to clear refund policies that are reasonably favoring the consumer.

I’d refund in a heartbeat if there was no download. Not even a question. If one doesn’t login we get an alert and refund. It’s above board

Oh, sorry, and I do understand that the pre-checked x-sale exists for the customer's convenience only.

I do have some good scripts that I made for trials and converted at like 1:10-1:50ish. The only reason why I stopped is because the companies that I was promoting went away and I focused on other things. I need to do that again..

I only sell them to myself. I don’t trust ANYONE with my members. I joined a site once and got hit 6 months later. I’d never do that. I don’t have it in me.

Even Amazon really push their Prime service and is often very easy to add if you're not savy.

You'll find that you do end up with a couple of refunds using the method above BUT, that is a better option than a pre-checked cross sale chargeback

That isn't to say there isn't a place for pre-checked sales, if they are done correctly, many companies (adult and non) use them on a daily basis and have no issues with them.

Does not seem to be hurting Amazon, Disney, Hulu, ESPN, etc.

They are all membership based business models that do VERY well utilizing pre-checked cross sales on almost every transaction.

Saying that 'no successful business' needs to rely on them, is a little misleading considering that is how some of the largest companies in the world became and are becoming so successful.

I'm personally not a fan of them, but there is definitely a place for them in any business so long as they are used appropriately and in a manner consistent with the consumers requirements in mind.
