I've been using my telephone's text messaging for so long that I've forgotten how to use skype.

I've given several people my skype id but they all say that it doesn't work. I've checked it and I've given them the correct id.

Maybe someone knows what I'm doing wrong?

Oh it's boomer software ??? So do I need to put skype on a VHS tape to make it work???

That looks like a live id, not a skype id (which is why it says live: ) . I don't know if you can use your live id to access skype, but I don't think so.

Go into your skype. Go to settings. Click on Skype Name and the name that is there is what people need to get to you on skype.

Maybe it's because I'm using a phone for skype but when I click on settings I get the live id.

It's a common problem on skype, first check in your settings do you have enabled search, and then set some unique name for your skype which can be shown when someone is searching for you.

I can't find anything that says "enable search" or to "set a unique name"

I think it's not possible anymore to set an individual Skype name. (I haven't found the option either)

I am not reffering to username name , but name in your skype profile, which can be also used for search.

For example, when i type "Hamilton Steele" in search, it shows your ID as first result, but you can add something unique to name, like "Hamilton Steele P" which will help to make search output unique when there is more people with same name and last name.
