Overture Search Term Suggestion Tool and Other SE's

Do you think the "overture search term suggestion tool" gives you a good idea of what people are searching for in google/ altavista / all the web?

Hmm... I've always wondered that. I'm not sure. I think the TOP phrases definitely do but phrases with less than a few hundred clicks per month are less representative.

I don't think they are the same at all, i used google ad words and overture PPC on the same bunch of key words and get different hits, but i agree the bigger words tend to be the same.

I think overture is pretty reprsentative of search terms, where they are large enough, it is pretty accurate.

Theres no relationship at all. I do a lot of PPC work on a number of engines and apart from the top 20 KW's (sex, porn hardcore, teen, anal, xxx etc) the next 120,000 KW's all different. Best suggestion is to theme specifically to what you are promoting, Zipf theory work pretty well for me.

Zipf law is frequency of words in the English language. words like "and" "but" "if "is" are right at the top of the scale while words like "onomatopoeia" are at the less used end of the scale.

PPC is a numbers game so if you bid 15c on "Sex" and get 100 clicks it'll cost ya $15. but if you use words like sexual, sexy or sexiness (less frequently clicked KW's), the $15 might last you longer and bring in a couple more joins because the KW's are more relevant to what the person is looking for (i.e. sexy chick).
