Buying a computer monitor in 2019... Is it worth it???

I have not bought a monitor for YEARS ! Aside from my iMac which was kinda monitor included. So, I'm thinking of going to about 32 inches. And its set me wondering... What's the point of getting a monitor in 2019, when you can get a full HD TV instead for half the price?

Assuming that I'm only gonna be outputting 1080p to it anyway, and so you I don't need 4K, it seems mad that I could pay more for just a screen with two inputs, than a fully functioning TV with remote control, speakers, 3 HDMI sockets and two USB plugs to use for extra power? Hell, most even have netflix and amazon prime video etc built in anyway... So its not like Id be using the PC to access that kinda content...

& If I really wanted to output a movie in 4K, I would just hook it up to the 46 inch 4K TV on the wall and watch from the Sofa...

I understand that the 'Extreme Gamers' will say 'Millisecond Refresh Rates' and stuff like that, but from the point of a regular user, watching the odd movie, casually playing the odd game and browsing the web (and poosting on GFY of course) is there really ANY advantage in a 'proper' monitor in 2019?

If so, Please educate me - Its not about the money per say... Its more about making the right choice ! Thanks

Less eye strain. Browsing the web on a TV will suck.

+ Sharper image, better colors. You would not want to go back after you have upgraded

For a computer, always buy a monitor and not a TV. Resolution is not the only deciding factor.

For some good advice on this, check out the Linus tech tips channel on YouTube and look for monitor vs tv. There are several videos about it.

If you are looking for the ultimate monitor and don't mind the expense, get a 49" Ultra-Wide (32:9) monitor.

Make sure the one you get has 1440p vertical resolution.

I bought the Dell 49" last January. So far, love it.

I'd imagine that the ultra wide monitors are better for coding, as text doesn't continue from one screen to the next, as it does with a multi-monitor setup. Does anyone use a 32:9 ultra wide monitor like this? What are the other pros/cons besides the ~$1,000 price tag?

Looks great but total overkill for my needs tbh... My days of coding, editing, photoshop etc all at the same time are well in the past now...

I think I'm gonna go for a 32inch curved 4K one... Gotta get my desk built first so I can decide for sure

If your getting 27in or bigger you should at least get 1440p, otherwise you can see the pixels.

I think it is crazy for a tv set to have a tuner these days so a monitor should be around a while.

Will never be without one

Oh shit I shouldn't have looked that up

You can't a4d a monitor, mate, but yes buy a monitor, not a TV. I've tried it and it's not the same.
