I want you to shut down this pricks account and send me his fucking money. (Like you have the balls to do that huh)? Yea, if more sponsors would do that - we would have less problems with people who don't follow the fucking rules!

Yea...I've already confronted some people at epoch - they are fugg'n worthless when it comes to shit like this. As long as the money is coming in - they look the other way - just like sponsors and processors.

Dean, while waiting for your spam bounty, why don't you refund the money to sites who use your images and might engage in spam? ya know, send them an email to take your images down, and then just refund their money. Surely, you wouldn't want to make money from spam, right?

I think what gets lost in the mix, especially on this board, is the difference people have interpreting terms.

To ME, there is a difference between spam and bulkmail. Spam, to ME is harvesting names and mailing.those names. Bulkmail, to ME, is the person owning the email account opting in SOMEWHERE to recieve email. If that name gets bought, sold, etc. is that any diferent than Publisher's Clearing House selling your mailing address to other companies (believe me, they don't give away millions per year just by selling magazine subscriptions ;))?

Basically, the opinion of my attorney is when I'm collecting an email address to specifically state what I will do with that email address. I think this is basically all we'll see come of this new law in Virginia. People will just disclose that they reserve the right to sale, trade, rent, transfer, etc. your email address to any other party it deems fit.

My advice to counter something like this is set up a whitelist and a special email address for programs (a lot of people already do this) then shut down the email address after it's served it's purpose.

Actuslly, I want to see a day when spamcop, spews, etc. are held accountable for their actions as well. OK, so let's hold blatant harvest and mail spammers accountable, but if some fuckface like spamcop or spews causes problems with an innocent site, they should also share in the responsibility of their actions. Maybe I'll have my friend, who runs a very clean, double opt-in email list who has had his sites shut down by overzealous spamcops (hosts have become total pussies these days and just bow to these holier than though spamcop dorks). He lost income and it wasn't even his fault.

I'm not talking about using your images in a spam...

say a site who bought YOUR images is spamming, would you make them take the image down and refund their money? By proxy, you would be profiting from spam. The same as some angle many anti's use when going after a site's host, processor, etc.

This is not the same argument that ePoch is using. They are continueing to do business with (and profiting from) people and companies who engage in spamming. I am in rage because of all the dead-beat processors who knowingly sleep with spammers day in and day out and don't do a fucking thing about it. I'm sure the account was deleted "only" because I've spent the last hour "going for the throat" and because they feel they need to make a public statement. Otherwise, I'm sure I would have gotten no response (as has been the case in the past) and nothing would have been done about it.

Sykkboy I agree with you - there is a difference between true spammers (email harvesters) and double opt-in lists (however I do not think that double opt-in lists should be sold... folks are opting in to YOUR newsletters, not someone else's spam).

But your point about hosts just "bowing down" - we have no choice. As a host, I know what it's like to have the data center call you up and say "take down the site or we're unplugging your server and ALL of your sites and your clients' sites will be down". It sucks balls. It's take the site down without argument or lose everything. There isn't even any room to investigate the spam and trace the IPs etc. to see if your client is really in the wrong. You've got like an hour to remove the site or you're fucked.
