What PC specs do you advice for some movie editing?
Hi,
I wanna buy a new PC, with RAID controllers and such, because I'm as scared as hell one HDD will crash one day:-) I like to do some movie editing as well, I'm not a real pro(yet ) but I like it...So I want a PC that is great for office work, but as well for some easy movie editing.(DV movie tapes--->nice avi's,mpegs) What do you advice me? AMD or INTEL? And dual? or is single processor enough? 1GB ram? Videocard important? Thnx Andre

I have p4 1.6 with 512 mb ram, and I do ok. I'd suspect the more ram the better, also a big-ass hd.

Most movieboardsets are optimised for Intel CPU's (I dont like it but thats the way it is) so Intell is a MUST if you want dedicated hardware encoding. If you just run standart CPU encoding, I would Buy a Dual CPU TYAN motherboard ("Tiger" series) and use AMD Cpu's they preform the best. If you still want to go with Intell, I would spend the extra cash and buy Xeon Cpu's Take a look at www.digitalvideoediting.com they have some test of lowend systems as well |

Go with dual Xeons, movie editing is processor intensive, and most editing software is often optimized for dual processors. 1GB of memory should be plenty.
