:mad Smoking Ban?s

Ok, this may be an old issue but I was watching our local news here in Phoenix and a few more cities are jumping on the no smoking ban.

Correct me if I am wrong?. Didn?t this whole thing start in California? A state where you can do more damage to your lungs by just breathing the polluted air than you could ever do in a bar or restaurant. I mean common, most days you cannot see 100 yards in front of you because of the smog and people are worried about a little cigarette smoke.

Now because of this, more and more communities are following these footsteps and taking it one further. I mean really, not being allowed to smoke on a public street? I believe Main St. in Tempe has passed such a law. Not sure how well it is enforced, but it is a stupid law. Ok, indoors I can understand, but out in the open?

Personally, I refuse to spend my hard earned money in an establishment that limits my enjoyment. As a smoker, and I know there are others out there too, I cannot drink without a cigarette.

Here in Surprise, our stupid fucking mayor passed such a law without ever putting it to a vote to let people decide for themselves if they want this law or not. Don?t dictators do that sort of shit?

So, when people say that we Americans have so much freedom, I have to say that, yes, we may have a lot of freedom, but our freedom is slowly being taken away on a daily basis.

Just my opinion?.. Any thoughts?

I'm an ex-smoker and I think you're just a nicotine addicted whining bitch.

Stop smoking or smoke at home if you don't want to respect everyone's health. And using the "pollution" excuse is so fucking lame it only shows how badly nicotine is controlling your life right now.

I refuse to spend "my" hard earned money in an establishment which does not consider the health of "all" parties within the establishment by allowing them to smoke "within the establishment". In short - If you want to kill yourself by smoking - go right ahead. But don't take down the fucking ship with you

We have the right to breath without taking in your second hand smoke - don't you think? You wouldn't like it if I forced you to breath my farts - would you? Same difference*

It's called a ventalation system.... Partition off the establishment to accommodate everyone, not just one group of people.

Why not use pollution as an example? It is just as serious an issue, you can die from it just as easy. (if not easier)

Shit, some days in LA they have health alerts where they ask the elderly and small children to stay indoors on these days.

How fucked up is that?

Should be up each individual establishment owner to decide if he wants his place to be smoking or non-smoking.

yea...that's how they do it in the south - where I'm from. You go into a restaurant and ask for "non-smoking section". I've never been into a non-smoking section that didn't have smoke in it though. The smoke always seems to make it's way to that section no matter what.

For me personally, I am allergic to cigarette smoke. I'll start coughing and my eyes will start watering - just what I want to do when I dine out.

Perhaps LA has decided to give everyone in a restaurant a little break from the pollution by having that law that prohibits no smoking in restaurants. If it were up to me - all restaurants would be required to enforce that law - as well as casinos. Who wants to go to a casino and come out smelling like a fucking ash tray?

Cheers -

If it lingers in, then their system is not tht good. Our Applebee's had a great one. I sat in non-smoking a couple of times so I did not have to wait, and there was nothing comming over, and I was right on the line.

I would think it would be hard for you to smell "that" smoke if you are a smoker and have been smoking. Your clothes smell like smoke, your fingers smell like smoke - and your telling me you couldn't smell the smoke?

I guarantee you a non-smoker would have a keener sense of smell in regards to cigarette smoke. I can smell that shit a mile away.

I agree to disagree with you - gotta move on bro' - get some work done today. Good luck with your rant -

You're not going to like my take on smoking......

Smoking is one of the worst habits ever... self-gratifying, selfish, self-desctructive.... it's got it all. It's a dirty disgusting habit that not only promotes cardio-vascular disease in the addict but it also affects others around the smoker via second-hand smoke. Sadder yet is to see pregnant women smoking, men smoking near a pregnant woman, and my all-time favorite thing..... a family on welfare, kids need food, and yet the parents always seem to have enough cigarettes no matter how expensive a carton gets. Don't complain about not being able to feed your kids until you stop dropping $50 a fucking carton of smokes every week.

No ventilation system made can sufficiently remove the danger from smoke for those that don't want to breath in the poison from *your* cancer stick. Personally I welcome the "California-like" smoking bans and wonder why they've taken so long to spread. Bring it on.

Here in Manitoba there has been a smoking ban in restaurants for over a year now, and a complete ban in public places is set to commence soon. It's about fucking time. Kissing someone who smokes really is like licking a dirty ashtray.

I remember when Tempe banned smoking in public places including restaurants and bars......obviously many were pissed but I was amazed to see how many people actually accepted the ban!!!

I get the same vibe here in Cali, some people think the ban sucks but most people, including some smokers I know, think it's reasonable...

I would have really thought the opposite..

Any smokers here okay with these bans?

A smoker can smell the smoke of another brand of cigarette. When we get company and they smoke something different that what I smoke, I can smell it.

A smoker knows!

You have the option of not kissing smokers.

If I build a restaurant and want it to be smoking, I should be able to. I should be able to put a big sign out front that says "SMOKING ALLOWED". Everyone who doesn't smoke then has the option of finding another place to eat.

But I do agree with the rest of your post. Smoking is a disgusting habit and seeing pregnant women smoke, guys smoking around pregnant women and the welfare family blowing $200 to $300/month on cigs is pathetic.

I have been smoking since I was 14, I am 38 now. I have been in bands most of my life playing in "smoking" bars. I have had over half of my life with 1st hand and 2nd hand smoke in me, I am fine. No cancer or anything and I can still sing good as ever.

Besides, anyone can put up a site like that and still not give the truth. Just because they calle it "thetruth.con" doesnot make it fact.

Look at the ads on tv for marijuana. I smoke pot too, I have never run anyone over, gotten pregnant or shot one of my friends.

It may be true, but it does not apply to everyone.
