You know what I think? I think Maybe Dyna wasn't threatened by Thommy after all but instead just feels threatened by him. Don't forget - he still didn't show us the link where Thommy threatened him. At this point I think it just doesn't exist, and he's lying about it, and he's hoping everyone will forget. And your endless freak-out tells me that maybe you're threatened by me. You shouldn't be though! I'm actually a nice guy. Try not to panic. Quote:

Here's a question: If Trump were to reverse everything as far as the trade war goes, or maybe put it off for a year so that new deals could be made, would Harley Davidson and the others halt their plans to build more components offshore? If Trump were to do something like (a) slowly raise tarrifs on imports (b) Give tax incentives to companies to build more in the US (c) Ensure that those incentives were used to hire more workers Would this solve the problem and have more products built in the US? And wouldn't this work if all countries started doing the same things where possible too? |
Harley Davidson was making parts in Japan in the 70s.My inner primary leaks oil right through the casting. They pride themselves as made in America but that hasn't been the case for the last 50 years. Usually my bikes end up being 1/3 Harley parts because their shit compared to after market parts which are built in the US.

Every country...including your own...already have huge tariffs on the U.S. I watched Pres. Trump speaking in North Dakota last night (to thousands of cheering citizens). And what he said made perfect sense to me (as it did during the campaign). He said: We are $500 BILLION dollars in deficit with our trade partners around the world. We aren't STARTING a trade war. The trade war happened years ago and we LOST thanks to our so-called leaders selling out the American worker. So we get killed in trade and in many cases actually pay billions of dollars to have our military DEFEND many of these countrys! And this was my favorite thing he said: "Global freeloading and taking advantage of the United States is OVER" Mark, if Canada wants "free trade"...then your govt. shouldn't have been putting tariffs on our products all along. Pres. Trump actually offered Canada and the EU for all country's to drop all tariffs against each other. The EU (which was actually formed to "compete" with the U.S. in world trade) said "hell no" and so did your leader Trudeau. They don't WANT to stop taxing our products. They love having all that extra juice into THEIR economy's. They LIKE it when our leaders screwed our own country and enriched Canada and the EU. That's smart for Canadian leaders and EU leaders. But just stupid for our country. And that's over now. All Trump is saying is that the U.S. will now start protecting our own workers and jobs. The media and your leader call that kind of thing "protectionism" and "nationalism". And yet...THIS IS WHAT TRUDEAU HIMSELF SAID: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said today his government will work to protect Canadian steel and aluminum workers as the tariff tiff between Canada and the U.S. ramps up. "I've assured them that we're going to be working with them to make sure that Canadian jobs are protected and that Canadian workers and communities continue to do OK despite these unnecessary and punitive actions from the United States," Trudeau told CBC Radio's Information Morning host Portia Clark during a stop in Halifax. So the double standard and hypocrisy continues. Canada (and the EU) have had huge tariffs in place on U.S. goods for decades. And as Trudeau said...they are going to PROTECT their jobs and workers. Yet when we do the same thing...Trump is attacked for it. And THAT is what the American people are sick of. We are tired of being fucked over all the time. FAIR trade is what's going to happen under President Trump. For instance...our steel and aluminum industry's have been decimated. Canada has dumped steel on us for years. United States Steel company was running on life support. Hasn't opened a new plant in 32 years. Closed almost all of them. Now? They are OPENING 6 NEW plants and hiring people for good wages. It's "America First" here in the U.S. now. Just like it has ALWAYS been "Europe First" in the EU and "Canada First" in Canada. It's only fair. |

I'm not sure how long it's been (I would guess since the 50's?) that the US, Canada and other countries have all outsourced parts from other countries. From the point of view of the US and Canada, most everything we now buy is made overseas. It would be great to be able to buy things that were made locally again, but I think that imposing sudden tarrifs on things made elsewhere will cause more harm than good. To me it makes more sense to talk to all countries involved and explore ways to do things slowly and avoid negative impacts where possible. Just imagine how cool it would be to buy a Harley Davidson bike, and wear an HD jacket, knowing that 100% of it was made in the USA? Then again, the fact that some of its parts are made overseas too does not and should not really hurt the brand either. If you go to their website at https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/en/index.html screaming "built in the usa". So maybe it doesn't matter where it's built? Is a Harley Davidson motorcycle any less iconic, cool or sexy because parts come from offshore? For me at least, no. Quote:

robbie, tariffs don't juice the local economy. tariffs go directly into government coffers.

Oil, lumber, steel alone. Your nation has been exploiting us with these specifically. There are no comparables to these. We have went along with this, not out of stupidity, but as to maintain trade relations with your nation over time. But we will only tip so far until we must stand up to it and this is what is happening now, no more no less. |

These tariffs will make sure we don't take advantage of your country anymore. |
One thing I would LOVE to see is for Canada to stop exporting lumber, and stop cutting so much of it down.
In BC especially, the lumber companies chop thousands of acres down, but leave just enough so that the devastation can't be seen from the roads. My brother sends me pictures of this sometimes and it's depressing as hell. |

We have our own lumber industry which has been hurt badly by Canada dumping lumber on the U.S.: "The U.S. International Trade Commission said on Thursday it made a final finding that exports of softwood lumber from Canada injure U.S. producers, virtually ensuring that hefty duties on imports of the building material will remain in place for five years. The decision will impose anti-dumping and anti-subsidy duties affecting about $5.66 billion worth of lumber and comes amid increasingly acrimonious talks on renegotiating NAFTA, the trilateral trade pact between the United States, Canada and Mexico." The difference is that he is talking about a major movement - #walkaway where lifelong democrats are abandoning the hate, the lies, the nonstop vitriolic attacks, the calling of anyone "racist" simply because they don't like what you're saying, continually creating new victim classes etc etc etc and more importantly, CONSTANTLY ROOTING FOR FAILURE AT ANY COST,... because they just want the country to move forward and want to believe in the future. Also, in case you haven't noticed (obviously you haven't), Trumps popularity continues to grow along with the economy. |
hah, i call it veer right when i think of it for myself. hadn't really heard of walkaway.
but I'm loving the rising democratic socialist movement. it has potential. |
