My iPhone connects to wifi here at home but outside, I'm not able to be online. Suggestions were to get an Apple Watch for $21.50/month from AT&T, my carrier. But, it says for Series 1!i need an iPhone nearby. I can do that but it won't be online.

What's my alternative option? I can connect to the AT&T network but we get ten hours per month only, and I'm on the account of my bff, and he pays my bill.

I don't want to eat his time, though I'll only use an hour or two per month. But I don't want him charged if we go over the limit. I know he'll say don't worry about it, but I'm not going to use his time,,period.

Got to be an alternative since AT&T's bank said I don't qualify for financing since my SSDI is so low. They don't consider money in the bank as viable cash; it goes by monthly income.

If there's a Series 1 Watch under $150 (stop laughing) tell me. $279.99 is the cheapest for 42mm size that I've seen. And forget those $19/week specials. $76/month is beyond my means. Sadly, I'm the woman who dropped $36k on a '69 GTO without blinking. Went into bank, got a bank check, and bought it. Now I can't do $279.99 unless I get 24 months.

Life can be exemplary one minute, and horrendous in the next minute. Save money and fucking hide it in trust. Seven figures can walk out the door in a bad heartbeat.

I do not understand.... Your iPhone does not have Internet unless you have Wifi?

My phone acts as a hotspot... anywhere I go.

I'll tell you what to do. Throw away the iwatch and get a real watch like a Tag and then get a real phone. I love my S9.

If I'm not home, it asks which network I want to connect to. It lists local connections but a password is needed. How do I connect to a hotspot? It frustrates me that everyone can use their iPhone when they want and I can't.

Sounds like operator error to me. Or you simply have no data plan on your phone.

That said, and Apple Watch series 1 won’t do anything to help you out. It gets its information from the phone. So if your phone has no connection, it won’t work. Target has been selling the series 1 for $149.

Your phone is connecting to your home's wifi router. If you go outside and lose your connection to it, it's just because you are out of range. There are a few things you can do.

1. If your router is a modern router that's just a few years old, it is probably a dual band router. 2.4 GHz, and 5GHz, with different SSID's. Try connecting your phone to both SSID's, and then do the range test again. 5GHz is faster but has shorter range. 2.4 GHz is slower but has longer range.

2. Make sure everything else such as Wifi channel is set to auto. Usually, your phone and your router will work to find the fastest, cleanest channel.

3. Replace your router for one with longer range.

4. Turn on "Cellular Data" (Settings / Cellular / Cellular Data). When you get too far away from your wifi router, your phone will switch over seemless to your cellular network. This can cost you money though depending on your data plan, so check with your carried first.

The Apple Watch Series 1 "pairs" to your phone. If your phone is online, so is your watch.

Always use your home wifi connection. If you go out, make sure to use any free wifi hotspots you can find.

If they are password protected, they are not for you to use.

Either look for one that has no password, or, look for one that is owned by the establishment that you are in. For example if you go to Starbucks, you will see 1 or more Starbucks Wifi access points on your phone or watch. Ask the cashier for the password and he or she will give it to you.

You are out of luck though if the the wifi network require logins, subscriptions or profiles. In order to connect your watch to that wifi location, your phone will be required.

Operator error how? Hotspot wasn’t enabled. I think I enabled it but can’t check until I go to the doctor on Tuesday. I was most likely told to turn it on but amnesia gets in the way.

THe price is $149 at Target? $279.99 online is cheapest I saw with larger screen and monthly payments. But, if hotspot works, I won’t need to spend money on a watch.

Find out how much data you have on your phone plan first.

Some carriers limit the "tethering" or "wifi hotspot" data usage on your phone. This feature is essentially only used to connect other devices to the Internet via your phone. Like an iPad or laptop.

But the phone itself should be able to use as much data (Internet) as you want, so long as you don't exceed your monthly cap (amount of data/internet allotted in your cell plan).

Get a better cell plan. You can get a line of unlimited (2GB 4g, rest 3G) from metropcs for $30 a line. Metropcs rides on T-Mobile. If it is not available in your area there are probably other cheaper than your ATT unlimited plans available.

10 hours of ATT sounds like something from the nineties to me.

BFF saw the post and emailed today. Ten hours is wrong; ten gigs is the data plan. I've asked how much per gig if I go over. I don't need the watch if I can use the hotspot. Now that I understand it isn't time but gigs, I'll use it for emails or a quick search. Browsing can wait until I get to the house.

Tuesday I'll be out so can test it. If it fails, Wednesday I'm going out, too, so can fiddle with it Tuesday night.

He'd told me gigs but that was two years ago when he visite me. Somehow I remembered ten ...

Does your cell phone have a data plan? If you do when you leave the house it pulls from your cell phone connection - 4G and all that.

You know what? No disrespect intended but if you need to finance $179, then you shouldn't buy that watch, or anything else for that matter right now.

I'm sure you've heard this 100 times already from your friends and family, but just save your money instead. It sucks not being able to shop I know, but use your money to pay down some other bills instead and you'll feel alot better than any watch could make you feel.

Save money? Mmmkay. I’m not going to explain why that’s ludicrous in public but suffice to say seven figures in medical bills left me broke. SSDI doesn’t pay much. It may sound crazy to pay off the watch, but I need a cellphone outside the house.

Hopefully I’ll test it tomorrow and have access.

10 gigs should be plenty to cover you all month for regular browsing. You just can't stream videos. Especially HD videos.

And you definitely don't need the watch. You just need to turn the DATA on your phone on when you leave the house.. Then turn it off when you get back. Typically it should be setup to automatically connect to your home wifi when it's within range.

Something is off. Cellular Data WAS on yet it doesn’t connect as it has nothing to connect to but the local connections, and those require passwords. BFF is checking on it. When he last visited, he had it working. Tomorrow I’ll be out and will test it.

It’s frustrating him as everything is set right but it isn’t connecting. I’m thinking setting isn’t on or another shoulder be off.

I only have four networks listed when I’m home. Mine, staff, my printer and sometimes another that’s the neighbor down the road, I guess. Not many houses around here.
