Owning a paysite.

This is in response to the thread titled: "How much do sponsors really profit off a $35 payout?"

I found all of your point of views very interesting, and i learned a great deal from it.

One question i was left with:

If you own a paysite (not a sponsor program) lets say its a single girl amateur site.

You dont update often, but you also dont expect rebills either.

You charge a flat fee of like $29.99 to $39.99 for monthly membership, no trials.

The main promotion will be done by you, by buying traffic, SE listings, galleries, avs, etc.

Can this type of situation be profitable?

Ive never owned A paysite, nor do i plan on it anytime soon ... just curious to know how harsh rebills can be.

Figure someone throws up maybe 10k images, few hours of downloadable vids. Now your looking at the cost of all that exclusive content (assuming you cant shoot it yourself) as well as any hosting and processing fee's.

On one hand it seems like a profitable situation, yet on the other hand it seems like it would take a while to develop enough marketting strategies to make it even remotely profitable.

Any feedback on this?

Change: "You dont update often, but you also dont expect rebills either."

to this: "You DO update often, and you expect rebills."

Then yes it's profitable, and moreso if you are the content. There are also companies, Like us and Lightspeed (more out there as well) that can handle the promotion of single girl sites and they can be even more profitable.

Somebody slap him for using langauge like that. Exclusive and 80% (more?) of paysites are not words that are ever used together!

If you bust your ass and shoot good stuff and promote it, it should work.

The key is finding innovative ways to make it work and having the $$ to get it up and running.

was thinking more in the terms of a guy making a site of his wife.

That would be exclusive content, and also updatable .... just wondering about the odds of the site succeeding assuming he did not update often.

Good point. Especially in needing the cash to get up and running. On paper the idea looks very cheap, but then you start tacking on so many fee's and different charges, as well as how many months with $0 income initially .... it really add's up rather quick i bet.

Stashi - If you have original content...husband/wife type stuff, you'd do really well with Pro Adult. No set up fees, no Visa reg, free hosting & a built in traffic source. Build a site, update it once a month & send pics in to Voyeur Web & you'll make money. My members stay for ages so the total paychecks go up every month.

Once you've got a good flow of money coming in & have honed your marketing skills, expand to paysites.

If you have any questions, let me know.

i experimented once.. sent a ton of sign ups to a site with a free content back end and it converted from trial to month at 30%, and month to month at about 70% decrease each month.. this was 6 months ago...

You'd have to be a dumbass to spend all this time and money to start a site where you expect your members not to rebill.

The first step to success, stashi, is very simple -

listen more, talk less.

Okay, a single amateur paysite will be "Profitable" faster than throwing up 10k of stock images.

I started my site with 500 pictures, and a billing company. Subtracting out expenses for the site itself, I started making a profit in the 2nd month. and its only gone up. I have a member that has rebilled since I opened the site, even through two months that i did nothing on it.

Of course, I have a much lower price point. I think that 29.99 is outrageous for an amateur site just starting out. Carol Cox charges 20 bucks a month, that that might be the upper limit that a site can support.

Also, I started out with weekly updates when I started, 1) to get the customers interested, and 2) to get the content up! Keep the members satisfied, and it will work better.

In his previous persona he couldn't keep his mouth shut so why should that change just because he changed his nick?

THE THING is that without updates this won't be a long-run project. You won't be able to generate tons of traffic all the time and without rebills you'll be over soon.
