Tomorrow in Israel is the Holocaust Memorial Day.
Ceremonies in Israel and other places in the world mark the beginning of that day which stands to remind us of the atrocity that blackened the world about 60 years ago.
It aims to remind us the destructive power of hate and the devastating effect of silence in the face of such hate.

On April 24 it was the 88 anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, where 1.5 million Armenians died in the hands of Ottoman Turks. It is very sad that United States and Turkey until this day do not recognize the mass killing of Armenians as a genocide due to political reasons. Armenians and Jews have very similiar history and fate, however Armenian sufferings are not recognized. It was the first genocide of the 20th century. Let us remember those who's lifes were taken. My Dad's dad came from the Ukraine and got to america before WWII, My Mom's dad came from Rhodes, Greece. He got to Seattle a few months before the Germans got in.

Last year I took my oldest daughter to Rhodes for 1 week. I went to the oldest temple on the island, well the only 1 and the oldest in Greece, over 1200 yrs old. I met a man who was about 90 or so, him and 1 lady are the only ppl still living on Rhodes that were taken to the camps, Survivied and came back to there home / island. The others he said were mostly killed, and those who survived moved to athens or the usa after the war.

it was so cool to be there. my mom's dad died when I was 7 so I didn't really get to know him all that well. We had a street named after his family there, Alhadeff. Many ppl I talked to knew of my family. Innocent ppl taken and killed, what a world we live in.

My Dad's dad came from the Ukraine and got to america before WWII, My Mom's dad came from Rhodes, Greece. He got to Seattle a few months before the Germans got in. Last year I took my oldest daughter to Rhodes for 1 week. I went to the oldest temple on the island, well the only 1 and the oldest in Greece, over 1200 yrs old. I met a man who was about 90 or so, him and 1 lady are the only ppl still living on Rhodes that were taken to the camps, Survivied and came back to there home / island. The others he said were mostly killed, and those who survived moved to athens or the usa after the war. it was so cool to be there. my mom's dad died when I was 7 so I didn't really get to know him all that well. We had a street named after his family there, Alhadeff. Many ppl I talked to knew of my family. Innocent ppl taken and killed, what a world we live in. ----------------------------------------- Finally, I really don't want to get into this conversation on the eve of the Holocaust Memorial.
