Killing off Kazaa

In another thread I mentioned that Kazaa (which is spreading free porn and thus hurting all our businesses) can be eliminated by spreading lots of fake files, if enough webmasters take part in this.
Since it seems many webmasters are interested in this, it might be a good idea if a bunch of us worked together on this - after all, it's a rather big threat to our income, paysites, free sites and content providers alike.

Are any of you up for this?

No, but I am interested in putting up a buch of songs with skips and stuff like that. I think I'll dig up a bunch of partial episodes of South Park and put those back in my shared folder too. I just think it's funny to watch somebody with dial up download something for 6 hours and then only get 2/3 of it. hahahahaha

And very few people actually rate files.
On a search for "sex" in the video category exactly two non-sponsored files had integrity ratings for me.

If 20 people working together all give a file "excellent", then the file's integrity is "excellent". It's not difficult at all to impact.
And no, there is no such "filter". The RIAA is doing the same thing... making lots of servers with fake music files to make people frustrated. Kazaa can't be "destroyed", but if one out of two files that someone downloads ends up being shit, then yes, people will get frustrated and go away. It will work. I'm up for it. I'll even leave it up on my webserver.

If we work together and give the files high ratings, they wont tell the difference. Even if some wizzkid can tell, the masses wont...

Kazaa *can* be a decent advertising vehicle if used properly.

I've experimented in this by sharing some exclusive content watermarked with URLS, etc. Hard to assertain if it's even worth the trouble. In order for it to be fully affective, you would have to dedicate a machine to hosting out the files 24/7 I would think. One that you don't work on or shut down.

I've been thinking about doing this just for the hell of it anyway, but I like Kazaa. I don't think it's harming the adult industry any more than all the free shit you can get online.

You can also pop a site open at the end of a WMV file for guaranteed hits on every download. Uh oh... said too much!

What we need is the following:

-a site (killkazaa.com sounds nice )
-our home computers

That shouldn't be very hard to achieve, right?

Of course we would not only use fake files with no real porn, but we would also watermark urls, pop up sites, whatever works best... showing kazza users other ways to get better porn.

Yes it does sound very hard to achieve.

You can market on Kazaa, and even make money with that, yes.
However, the amount of hq porn, huge files, hard to find content etc. beats every single paysite. Worse, the only marketing tool you have is embedding urls and having wmv files pop up windows. Still worse, almost everything you put up on a paysite will end up on kazaa through your users. Even worse than that, Kazaa grows faster than any paysite, and gains thousands of users each and every day.

It's like the competition on steroids, and it will increase it's impact on the industry more every single day.

And if you just censor quite rigorously, it won't turn into real competition.

We would if we didn't have one big advantage: most of them are leeches without any specific goal other than getting what they want.

i suppose we could start an adult investment fund and buy out kazaa, then leech off the returns when we destroy the thing by redirecting everyone to adult paysites.

unrealistic but we can dream.

Yes we loose, many of us are also swappers/hackers
But the problem here is not those geeks, it's the dumb majority of people that are now learning how to use kazza and simillar programs. Napster was big because everyone could use it, not because of the geeks. So they had to bring down. Leechers and swappers will always get free porn, but when the masses are getting it , it's time to do something about it.

that is true...
if kazaa went down, some people will still find ways to leech.. but the majority won't know what to do anymore.. kazaa brings the free shit to the dumb majority on a silver plate.. its not the same situation with other leeching methods..

few webmasters make money of kazaa already, but that doesnt change the fact that it is hurting this biz so badly..

when i ask people why they don't pay for porn on internet, they tell me its because there is so much free porn around.. and when i asked them specifically how they get it, majority of them say its from kazaa, not tgps..

punkworld, i've been poisoning the stream, so to speak, for over a year now... i'm in for whatever you propose. what i've been doing is creating sets of files that are identical in byte-length to our real video content files, but they only contain random crap video, never any real content... it is very important to make your dummy files match up by name, time-stamp, and byte-length to the originals... that way they mix w/ the real pirated files. whats funniest is to create what look like huge rar'd sets of your content (complete w/ par's!) that end up costing thieves massive amounts of time and bandwidth.

i'm down w/ whatever you want to get going man, a group of people working together could do wreak *much* more havoc in these thieving circles..

does it really work?

are the files identified with filename and length? i was thinking maybe there is some sort of cheksum... because if you have a file and change the name, it still gets detected as the same file, so i dont think that has any effect... not sure about the bytelengths though..

yep, i've searched and downloaded the bad files personally just to make sure before... they appear to be legit until you finally try to watch them. i keep them on personal computers on two different broadband connections, and i limit the maximum upstream on those computers via a router setting... make sure that its crawling slow downloads to boot. i hate those thieving fuckers..

I think someone will get more mileage out of the highly illegal shit posted on Kazaa. CP, incest CP, children being murdered. They are breaking the local laws if not laws in their home office. The same APIC mechanism which monitors stolen images can work on Kazaa as well. They just need to know the correct address to issue the complaint.

Any server with contested content will be taken down if the issue is unresolved. Why should Kazaa be any different? Anything with a head can be decapitated, and the Kazaa network relies on centralized services for some functions.

I don't favor licenses being regulated by microchips. But more and more property is intellectual these days and current theivery gives lawmakers the rationale to micromanage every bit of content on Earth and cyberspace.

If anyone is good at hacking programs, you can hack a certain filesharing program to show all search items as yours. Add some pop-ups to the files and make some money.

The only problem with an organized effort will be that if say, bogus files are posted to a website, Kazaa's admins will be able to work around 'em. Unfortunately, I think that anything more public than GFY will help out Kazaa to root out the bad files. If someone wants to post links to bogus files here, I'll be more than happy to serve them up the the Kazaa leechers.

Password-protected members area, access is only given to people working in porn that can a show a url. The public pages only have info on the various ways to interfere with kazaa and a mission statement.
That would help, I think.

Since when did APIC have some kind of technology which monitors stolen images? I've never heard of it.

Anybody seen a spider from APIC before?

is there a version of Kazaa and WinMx that can run on a Unix server? My cable connection is already slow enough most of the time so to have people downloading from me would slow me down to a crawl.

No unix version of kazaa, you'd have to use wine for that.

Gnut runs on a unix server. It can be hacked so that you just need 1 file and it shows up as all the results.
Have you ever seen all the paysites that are spammed already?

Kazaa 101: Kazaa is just a client for the FastTrackNetwork. There are many, many different clients that can connect tot he FastTrack network, many of them available for *nix.

Ok so their are already some webbies willing to take action. If we really wanna do something I (with my little knowledge, im no programmer of elite webmaster) think what we need to start is:
- a site or a part of a site where ppl can meet up and get info
- tutorials on how to make windows open in mediafiles and stuff
- tutorials on how to make bogus files
- a bbs?

I think the last thing you would wanna do is make your bogus files known to others, you can bet that Kazaa sooner or later will find out where to get info on which files are bogus and filter them out. If everybody just make their own they can never find out which are bogus and which are real.

Anyone with time and recources to get this going? I would but I'm pretty low on funds at the moment, and even less time to set this up due to a new job.

don't worry too much about trying to open windows via media files, it would be nice to send the thieves to popup hell, but doing this could hurt more than help in the long run (w/ us remaining under radar while pulling this off indefinitely)... either totally corrupt media files, or giant videos of URL's are just as satisfying. i've got a DSL connection right here that is slammed on its upstream from suckers who think they're getting free porn off me as we speak, dipshits..

no, i don't... i'd read that it is possible w/ certain formats, but never looked into it. if their is a chance that these files would be targetted for filtering though, i won't bother using them... i'm happy enough to waste the thieves time using the dummy files themselves for now. i'd be more than up for anything more malicious we could get away w/ however..!
