Ever hired an assistant ?

Ever hired a webmaster assistant to help get some projects finished quicker ? How'd it work out ? Was it a good idea to look for someone already in the industry, or did you find someone new to it that worked out better ? Whats a good rate of pay for someone part-time .. say about 15 hours every week ?

i've had several employees over the years, and currently employee 2 full timer's and 1 part timer.

everyone i've ever hired was completely new to the industry (but not new to internet/computers - never hired anyone that wasn't well versed with computers/internet)...

rate really depends. i've always started out low, with the promise to increase according to performance. it's worked well for me.

hmm, not really. i guess the best strategy (if you are able to do it) is to take things you understand 100% yourself - and then shed that knowledge/know-how to the person you're working with. compartmentalize things as much as possible. looking at your business sort of like building blocks, with employees replacing certain blocks, has worked for me...

you should only be doing the $100 jobs yourself, if the $1 jobs are taking up too much of your time but are still required to get what you want done.

hire a lackey/intern or get yourself cloned.

Good luck!

Seriously, teaching people how your things work can be a good experience for you as well as them. We took on two bright young people recently and they asked "why?" a lot when I explained how we did things. Most of the time I could tell them why, but a few times it challenged me and I realised we did things for no particular reason and could do them better. I'll regularly take a step back and look at things from a newbie's point of view from now on.

For mainstream, I almost always do. Not to help me accomplish projects quicker, but to complete tasks that I can't do myself.

Yes, very hard to find. Usually by the time you get done explaining what you need done you could have finished it quicker doing it yourself.

I had someone helping me out -- mostly updating paysites with content (making the thumbs, ftp'ing up the pics, updating the software, etc) -- but they weren't realiable enough.

When I had an actual person here helping me, he was more interested in using my fast connection to surf for pr0n than doing his job. He lasted just a few months

Pay depends on how you're paying them --- are they an employee where you take out taxes, are they an independant contractor who is supposed to pay their own taxes, or do you pay them under the table (next to the guy giving the bjs!)?

I was thinking more along the line of an independent contractor, about 10 to 15 hours a week.. doing a lot of the boring shit like; content organization and sorting, ftp, updates, simple html, simple galleries and/or avs so I can start getting sites up on all my domains. I was debating whether to use someone already in the industry, or just get someone else who has the internet skills to get the job done.

The art of hiring the right people is the secret to success. There is only so much a one man band can achieve. Eva and I now have 7 people working for us, some full time some part time.

I have never done AVS...

I agree that with all the sponsors out there nowadays
and the variety on what can be promoted - having
empty domains is totally a waste... (smile...)

you may eMail me directly if you would like to...

definitely get someone in the adult industry for what you want. either pay them by what they get done and hire them off of here or find someone local and pay them by the hour and have them come work at your office.
