100 trillion dollars!

i didnt read over all the replies, but my best suggestion is to rent some cheap office space. you could do a lot of your work out of there and also keep all your records on file.

The problem is partly this law being written regarding model releases for VIDEOS and not taking into consideration websites and confidential information being given out.

I saw one site today with the custodian of records as a lawyer -- and any lawyer who can read knows that's not legal :)

What someone 'big' in the business needs to do is lobby a congressman or two and get the law changed to reflect video production companies -- and -- website operators.

It's wishful thinking, I know ... what would be ideal is if everyone of us in this boat gave $20 bucks to Larry Walters and let him fight to change the laws for us.

They're always reversing stalking laws that were written half-assed -- i.e. you have to put the legal address you reside at after filing an order of protection, and if you're hiding, that information is now available to the stalker

Aaron the fact is that you got good answers to your questions from your lawyer but in my opinion you failed to ask him the right questions to answer the concerns of the amateurs out there. The question has to be how far you can bend the law without breaking it and therefore protecting the privacy issues the amateurs rightly have I think. There also must be regulations for privacy issues in the US that might play into this. Many Amateurs aren't even a company but a private person doing it as hobby. The law is older than the net and was written when this kind of thing were only possible by big companies. A good lawyer should be able to find a solution but then of course that is expensive and therefore not really fundable by a small time amateur out there.

WTF do you know? I asked the right questions. Who are you or anybody else to try and bend the law? All that does is fuck it up for others. Give them an inch and they will take a mile. I offered 2 very good suggestions on how to handle her situation...Neither of which would cost much money.

The people who are concerned with this are US citizens and they answer to US laws. Next thing you know, you will be telling people how they can set up web servers and bank accounts in Amsterdam and legally sell hash because it is not tied to the US.

Go peddle you offshore corporation bullshit somewhere else. They way I see it, it is better to play by the rules than to piss sombody off to the point where they really put the screws to us.

i've told the story before but when I was doing my own site I had two actual letters from a guy in jail in Georgia stating his devotion to me and saying he is going to visit me when he gets out. It is part of the reason I don't do my site anymore - I have step kids that stay here fairly frequently and the last thing I need to do is wonder when he is coming to visit.

Steffie offices are expensive. Less expensive is renting a small warehouse facility for your business and keep your records in there. You'd be surprised how cheap they can be, especially if you get one way out in the boonies. I pay about $300 monthly for a small one that's under 1000 sq. ft.

Plus its safer than an office, since its fully secured without windows and fireproof, and no one goes in and out of there. It a better place to store film and docs than at your house or in an office building where cleaning crews are in at night, etc.

Why are you that pissed. All I am doing is offer different possibilies that are in fact completely legal. I have no clue why people always mystify offshore as illegal.

BTW I hate to break it to you but it seems they are already putting the screws to you US guys.

Ok, after adding my name, address etc to my legal information I got curious and went to a big Amateur Site (where Amateur chat hang out etc.)

I went thru the first 50 Amateur Websites to see who else had the balls to put their real name, address on the site.

After looking and looking I found 3!!!!!!!!!!!

3 out of 50

However, I am still keeping it up there, my luck I will be the first website they come and look for releases and stuff.. That would be just my luck.

I was surprised tho, some Amateurs been around and have quite a name in the AM Industry, they don't even have a link for Custodian of records, or legal info or anything. Most have a small disclaimer on the front page stating. All models are over 18 for Custodian of records click here (and thats an email address)

oh well

Going to watch Stargate SG1 xoxoxo

I found the same thing today while going through a shitload of content providers that we have purchased content/feeds from.

Fucking amazing. I had to call a few of them and explain what I wanted, why I wanted it, and then educate them on the laws.

WTF are they doing in business?

Now I have a single page ready for all of our sites to link to that contains the 2257 info for EVERTHING we have. Obviously I can not depend on the other content companies to follow the laws so I intend to do do as the secondary producer.
