You are right about appliances, etc, being more efficient than ever before. Hell, even in my house we've been working on changing out our light bulbs with more energy efficient ones.

But I disagree with you about the electric cars... There will be an increased demand for power due to electric cars, but this will be handled at the household level and will not pull from the "power grid". Meaning, the house itself will generate enough power to power up the house and power the cars. Well, at least in sunny states.
