I just saw Gilliam's Lost In La Mancha.

Python is not for everyone.

But their humor <i>is</i> bold and original, and that film had more... balls... than any film I can think of.

Take note of the French.

Chapman studied medicine at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. After mounting his own cabaret show, he was invited to join the Cambridge Footlight Society at the same time as first year student John Cleese. Eric Idle joined them one year later. (David Frost was secretary at that time)

He qualified as a doctor at St.Bartholomew's hospital in London.

Chapman put his medical career on hold and joined John Cleese on his tour with "Cambridge Circus", which ran on Broadway in Oct. 1964.

In England, he wrote for the "Doctor"-Series together with Bernard McKenna and John Cleese. He Met Michael Palin and Terry Jones while writing for "The Frost Report", but he also worked with Marty Feldman, Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr. At one Time he was writing for Monty Python, Ronnie Corbett and a "Doctor"-Series at the same time, together with Eric Idle and Barry Cryer.

Later he worked with Douglas Adams, they collaborated on a BBC special titled "Out of the trees".

After stopping drinking, he turned to his own project before filimg "Life of Brian": He produced, cowrote and starred "The Odd Job", which was released in 1978.

After Monty Python, he created "Yellowbeard" (a pirate spoof), the cast consisting of John Cleese, Peter Cook, Cheech and Chong, Peter Boyle, Madeline Kahn, Eric Idle and Keneth Mars.

Wrote his life story in "A Liars Autobiography, Volume VI".

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Other works by Graham Chapman:
The Odd Job
Yellowbeard (1983)
The Secret Policemens Other Ball
Dangerous Sports Club
Still Crazy like a Fox (1987)
The Dangerous Film Club
Jakes Journey

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Graham Chapman died of cancer on 4. Oct 1989 , just one day before the 20th aniversary of Monty Python.

I almost pissed myself at this part...

Black Knight: Oh, had enough eh?
Arthur: Look, you stupid bastard. You've got no arms left!
Black Knight: Yes I have.
Arthur: Look!
Black Knight: Just a flesh wound!

Then he cut his legs off too. Man, if you don't find that scene funny...

The N.Y. Times proclaimed "The Holy Grail" as a defining moment in cinema! "Movies will never be the same again after this one!"

And man..were they right.
If you only had so long to live..and had the chance to watch one movie..then this IS the one for you.

It is FANTABULOUS!

Python is definitely an acquired taste, all British comedy is, for North Americans. When I was a kid, i couldn't stand it when I'd see any of it on PBS. Then I saw Holy Grail as a teenager, brilliant. And Life of Brian is my favorite. Even the last movie they did had brilliantly funny parts.

Speaking of Holy Grail, that is EXACTLY what I thought of first when I first saw Baghdad Bob! The Black Knight - Baghdad Bob is the Black Knight! in complete denial, Black Knight is still issuing threats despite having lost all his limbs just like Baghdad Bob was doing talking about drowning the infidels in their own blood meanwhile Baghdad was falling with barely a fight behind him.

Baghad Bob would be hysterical played by Cleese.

Here are my rankings for sketch comedy troups:

Second City SCTV
Monty Python
Early Saturday Night Live
