They're talking about doing hardcore video editing work in an optimal setup. For what you are looking to do bro, just basics and nothing that is going to be a major drain on system resources you will be able to do what you want to do with one drive and a good basic system. There is even a version of Final Cut called Final Cut Express at a much lower price with a few of the super pro features removed that you could use if you wanted and it's going to be cheaper than After Effects or Premiere. So don't get too worried or caught up in the majority of this conversation. You'll do fine with a basic mac setup until you are making bigger money and doing more hardcore work then you might want to head into a dual processor mac.

NO - you need 2 drives.

AND you should only use SCSI (mac uses IDE to the OS and SCSI to the media files)

Its because of diskpreformance, and you need to put it on a seperate "BUS" to get the right speed

Apple Computer Dual PowerPC G4 processor 1.42 Ghz

and

the new Final Cut Pro 4

is the only way to go, very fast, very stable and very easy to use.

If your going to be doing MPEGs you will love Mac and a dual processor it makes life so easy.

Do you want to spend your time fixing your computer or making movies and making money?

All my movies are done on a Mac

Two seperate physical drives are needed. And the video drive should be defragged before every session.

Tried it other ways, including partitions, and the performance of having a physical drive devoted only to video files included not only faster rendering but meant fewer errors.

The reason is simply that hard drives are more efficient closer to the hub. If you partition the drive, your system files are going to take the innermost tracks. And with Windows, that may well be quite a chunk of prime real estate.

Engineers and Video professionals still use Macs because it's what they are used to, not necassarily because it works better.
It's kinda like that girlfriend you stayed with longer than you wanted to because you felt comfortable with her and didn't want to have to learn a new chcks problems.

If you know how to use a tool by all means use that tool because you will be faster on it. Don't try to come here and say a Mac is faster though. That is no longer true.

I HATE MACS... and Final Cut Pro is really cool.. but working on Macs and the incompatibility between PC and Mac will cause problems. Go with a PC and Premiere.

Any of you guys hear about the predictions that MAC will switch to P4 processors within a year?

I believe it was John C. Dvorak who said it. He's a dink, but a lot of the time he ends up being right.

Any thoughts from the Mac users?

You PC guys are so funny and the mentality that makes one a follower is something I have never understood. You don't know that a mac just makes more sense because you never really use one. That's like you telling me your Ford Focus is better than a Lexus because you've never driven one and you never have problems with your Ford. And for Wolf you just love to cause trouble but you know better than the bullshit you're posting. You guys and your overpriced playstations crack me up.
