What do you think of this machine for video editing?
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...?v=glance&s=pc
do you think it's powerful enough to do work in Premiere without problems? My current machine is crashing all the time when I try to edit. :helpme |
I suppose you're going to be editing Windows Media files, because if you aren't editing for WMV then you would be better off getting yourself a mac for video editing. For the price you are looking to spend as well you would have a far superior editing system than a PC anyday.

MAC SUX
I have build Videoediting mashines for broadcast and production the last 3 years now, and i STILL hear the same thing; "mac are better" - they arent!!!!. Im not gonna go into details about it, but read this Mac vs. PC http://www.digitalvideoediting.com/2...macvspciii.htm What kind of editing do you do? Let me know and I'll guide you in the right direction. |

i'd never go so far as to say any operating system sucks. i enjoy free bsd and mac os. success is the true measure. to each his/her own. |
every radio, tv, broadcasting place i have been in, including local access had AVID mac systems.
every recording studio as well, running digideigns pro-tools. |
MAC is just fool-proof, more user-friendly, etc.. u can always build a faster PC for cheaper

Get Premier (its bundeled with Cleaner) You can learn to do "batch jobs" in no time, and just; - load in one large movie - Deside how large/long the clibs should be - export it, and it builds "X" amount of small files for you. For the cam, you can use Premier to edit the raw material I would buy a CHEAP movie bordset like Matrox rtx 100 or Pinnacle DV500 WHEN YOU HAVE THE MONEY :winkwink: |

The PC is based on a 32bit structure, and the Mac on a 64Bit The way programs is compiled, you reach the PROGRAM limitation around 2 GB files. (the 32 architecture cant HANDLE ONE LARGE 2GB FILE WITHOUT BREAKING IT UP= SLOW DOWN PROCESS) |

id take his advice. final cut pro and a mac. i have friends who edit video all day long and its mac. |
How sweet is that shit for you Windows users when you have to fucking call up Microsuck to get permission to reinstall your fucking operating system. Ahh that's got to be great.
|
It's good to see there are some intelligent people around here with love for Macs, I was begining to think that I was the only one.

Can we got some input here that isnt pissing?
How bout something like... A breakdown on whether or not a p4 is better than a Mac at.... Design Apps (Photoshop Illustrator, Flash, etc). Hardcore Video Editing (Heavy Processing Times) Etc Etc? I need to get another machine next month, I'd use this one for gaming, but... Really wanna get a Mac in some facet. Used to have the Black G3 400 Powerbook a few years back, was real nice, but... at that time I couldnt do shit on my windows network, since the company I worked for had built their own software. |

But we talked about videoediting |
I edit video all the time and have a PC and a Mac and I would only trust the important stuff to the Mac. No way would I do anything of value on a PC anymore, you just can't trust them. I push both machines to their limits and I just can't get the Mac to blow up. The PC, well, crashing one of those is a piece of cake.

BUT - Its because they use the "metadata" workflow, when they do all the editing on a client, that sends the "metadata" to the serverpark that does all the hard work (usually a Flint, Smoke, Infernal or one of the other SGI solitions that cost above $10 mill) |
i can give you 10 more links to benchmark tests, you dont impress me.
as I said, i have friends who are professional videographers, ranging from a snowboarding videographer pal who is into documentary type snowboard shoots for years. my other friend films natureand last videos he sent me were quictime panarama videos from alaska him in a canoe on the water surrounded by glaciers smoking a joint. im not into video, i do audio. ive been using mac since before the performas came out, and been using macs for electronic music production in studios since 93. shit i still have a 6400 mac running a black and white cam in the studio hahah i only go with what i know, im not here to prove which is better, but i know people who are using these machines, are using mac. from dr dre to megadeth done with a mac. i have a mac g4 running digidesign pro tools with 2 180 gig hard drives in an ATA approved flight case on wheels that even holds the monitor that is rented out for 500 bucks a day, show me someone doing that with a pc. <img src=http://www.overmindesign.com/images/mac.jpg border="1"> every time i edit audio on a cinema display digital audio set up, theres no question in my mind where the flavor is. |

Nobody has addressed the most negative thing in the proposed system: With Windows (I have no experience on Macs outside of some college graphics courses so I can't comment on that), one hard drive, regardless of how large it is, is not going to give good performance with video work. You must have at least two hard drives- a system drive and a drive devoted solely to video files.
Also, Compac is not the easiest system to add anything onto to it, including a secondary hard drive. |
that case cost more than a pc.
hahaha |
Ahh yeah brother the macs are winning out again. I wish we had more mac debate on this site, or on my site for that matter, but hell I'm always willing to debate an uneducated Microsuck victim.

Im in the Broadcast and Broduction bussiness - Not Homeuser, I know how the business works, and what products they use. I can give you a list of more than 200 happy customers that bought our turnkey products in 2002 (only 5% of them is MAC customers) ( I keep saying "our" but the company isent mine anymore :1orglaugh ) But its not about that. Marcus Asked if the PC did the job, and the answer is "yes" |
