Wil this make you think about moving back to Microsoft?

64-bit Microsoft SQL Server for Opteron near completion

Tarquin hints at Shock and Awe in Seattle

By Eva Glass: onsdag 09 april 2003, 10:14

I WAS JUST THINKING of calling Jill the Transmeta Molette when a vibrating sort of call came through on my CDMA Issa enabled cellphone.
It was Tarquin from Sacramento and what he said made me go all quivery and jelly-kneed.

The nay-sayers are still burbling about Microsoft and AMD but the evidence is everywhere that things are happily ramping, said Tarq.

Some firms, he reckoned, already have Opteron whizzing along at 2.5GHz ? no big surprise this. The Dirk-O-Meyer has hinted at future shock'n'awe on that front.

But what's more interesting ? according to Tarq ? is that Win64 support for AMD's Opteron is likely to arrive with SP1 of Windows Server 2003 by year end. By that time, as he kindly pointed out, Athlon64 will be a reality that even hunky chemist Paul R. Engel will not be able to ignore.

There's more of this. SQL Server 64 bit edition for the Opteron is in an advanced state of portitude, as our president might say, and is already being heavily benchmarked in the Seattle campus ? for development purposes, rather than those odious comparisons, of course.

Well thwack me with the GSM Association and I'll be Orlowskied and sheeshed a thousand times.

Now, Jill, isn't it about time we had that frothy concoction down at the boardwalk in Santa Cruz real soon?

This will make it possible to build SQL-bases sites that arent DEAD SLOW again

the whole story

Sigh, anyone remember Slammer?

I use to work for a very large job posting site. they ran MS SQL. It was a nightmare. Granted this was 1999, but I won't soon forget that shit.

If you want to run MSSQL on your servers, that's your business. I promise I won't laugh when ASP starts throwing errors. Really.

Microsoft used on 10% of web sites and shrinking.

The market will experience tremendous growth when the reemployed Microsoft admins reinstall Windows XP Net 2001 on all the older machines which have disk space available after 5 Trojan, worms and viri battled in the neverending quest for the 0 day warez .
