Tsunami shift in Google updates crashing through your yard

"Get smart about xml feeds and the realtime update future, or face SE extinction."

You can quote me on that.

Have a nice day.

Well, I figured there were a few... very few.

But are you offering other webmasters scripts, help, etc, particular to this?

I have a TGP that created an XML/RSS feed of the last X number of galleries submitted, but I disabled the feature when weblogs.com and other RSS sites started blocking my URL.

Right, we need the adult equivalent of those RSS pools.

All XML is is a way of storing/transmitting data. It's equivalent to comma-delimited data files. Very, very simple stuff.

Close- it does have a tree node structure that helps in manipulating the data and interfacing with the presentation layer, which is important. It's also a raw grammar, and can be manipulated just like a regular expression. Extensible description frameworks are also quite helpful in semantic searches.

These are some of the <i>big</i> reasons it's important in general. In this context, we're just talking about the syndication of news, and attribution to a source.

The only thing I know about XML is that I don't use it.

I've always understood XML to be not that important, at least not now.

What is this tie-in with XML and seo? I've not heard of it before. (and there's not much about seo I haven't heard of.)

XML doesn't have to have any kind of tree structure at all. By definition, it's just a way of formatting data (a very bloated way, actually). It can be nothing but a long list of values. It DOES add another CPU-intensive layer to whatever process you're using it with, so I really question it's functionality (after being an XML developer for several years).

Ok, if you say so. I'll just go tell the xslt people now. I assume you haven't had a serious algorithms course.

I just looked up the word serious to see if it might have some other literary interpretation.

Hmm, wait, I thought you said SERIOUS xml developer. Sorry. My bad I guess.

Ruskie scripts that handle this are already on version 4. Try CerVlad's version...its the most stable.

That handle what, chief?

Who is CerVlad? The only thing webferret and google pull for "cervlad" is an Italian Lion's club.

I think you're trying to pull my leg with dental floss.

I just looked at your post history... all you do is post these stupid images in threads.

Near's I can tell you're a 14 y.o. kid who just learned how to post images. Care to say anything other than posting another thread cutting image link that will get you banned?

I got it listed in a couple places (rss pools) but for the most part I couldn't tell if it was worth the effort. Then I started posting to sites like weblogs.com and blo.gs once in a while, after an update. Those posts never pulled more than a handful of clicks, and I eventually stopped updating the XML file altogether.

Getting back on topic: some of the better search engines will start ranking & indexing XML files as well as HTML, PHP, PDF, etc. I'm pretty sure Google has been doing this for a while.

I don't know if it will revolutionize search, but it will allow users to find timely information (from feeds updated each minute/hour/day) quicker & easier than before. Imagine hitting the "I Feel Lucky" button every time you searched.

If SE's were only to accept XML then i am willig to bet they would go downhill faster than Enron.

Only commercial sites really support XML, so what about all the information the surfer really wants to find? the information which makes the SE what it is and not just an advertising medium?

Sorry, your XML theory is total BS.

sigh. your interpretation is corny. think in terms of news, recurrence, immediacy. imagine everyone thinking that way. imagine the blogosphere being ubiquitous.

GayWideWebmasters is not you, right? For a resource site, being able to lurch ahead in Google rankings mid month would seem to be crucial

He's not saying the SE's will go XML-only. That would be ridiculous. Look at all the formats Google is already indexing (not just web documents but newsgroups, catalogs, products, etc.) though, and you'll see why adding XML makes sense.

BTW, there are 1000's of non-commercial sites out there using XML to syndicate content, see the "Collections" links at the bottom of this page for more info:

fnet,

Dude, I would not waste your Chars on idiots like 99 and notjoe.

Do a search for some old XML threads with these guys in it...

Look at it this way...

Keep the goodies to yourself...Don't share the wealth if you know what I mean.

If these guys are too dense to image what 'could' be done...let em sink man
