This is the big misconception. Most of American's didn't pick these two. About 29% of the people in the US are registered Democrats. About 26% are registered Republicans. I am a registered independent and live in a state with closed primaries. I have no say in who runs for president and who gets nominated by the major parties. So, I have no real choice but to accept that these are the choices presented to me.
