You have your members - now keep them

But what about when you make a sale.

The ideal situation is you have members re-bill.

Now we all know you will have people join and they will be too lazy to stop membership. They may only ever go on your site once.

Its a bit like most gyms know people sign up but do not go back and yet they have a membership each month.

But many will join, then cancel/not re-bill.

The difference in keeping a customer or not is huge.

Sure 1000 members who join for a single month only is nice money. But 1000 who all re-bill for 5 years is huge money.

So the aim is to keep them.

Now this is down to your members area. Its probably the area webmasters deal with least and I suspect most affiliates have zero thought about. As in got the sale, sod it.

Yet the members area is important.

But often such a let down.

Let me tell you my experience with a few sites.

I have been given a pass to the members area of many sites, and I can tell you its often a dull and disappointing experience indeed.

One well known site had a set of pics on each page. It was basic but dull. The worst part was it had banners at the bottom for other sites they were promoting. As a customer I would have felt I had paid to see adverts. Not at all a nice experience.
In truth most of the time I have found the members areas of websites rather disappointing. Often I think webmasters think that the content (pics and vids) is enough. But its as important for the customer to have an experience too.

One of the best I often felt was a certain alt site. Its the one where models with often an alt look provide content. Not only did you get the pics and vids but also the model had info about herself. It was also a joy to look around. I found it that it was not easy to find all the models which meant if I was a member I would probably have to stay many months to go through the site. And also each of the models were adding content. It felt in truth like facebook in the way you go onto someones facebook page and see there pics and what they were up to.

From reading the porn review sites, they often seem to concentrate on how much content there is. While this is a factor, they do not take into account the experience a customer can have in the members area.

What site owners need to do is start communicating with their members. You have their contact information, their email address; You should be emailing them every chance you get. Every time you have a site change, new photos or videos, new model, boom - email them. And when you've got nothing going on, email them something else.

I am not saying sending out four emails a day... but two or three emails a week should be good. Send out one email about a site update, and then another email about something else they might be interested in.

Though I hold my hands up and must point out that last time I was in a members area was at least 6 years ago.

So how things may have now changed I do not know.

But to be honest, when does anyone ever talk about the members area experience? We talk about content, but that's only part of the members experience.
