Word dude, AMD Athlon XP 3000+ means it is comparable to a P4 3000mhz.
But I wouldn't spend that kind of money on it. I'd rather buy a 2200+ or so and then upgrade after 6 months to a 3000+ (or higher), it might actually be cheaper.

Can the new Barton-core work with older motherboards?
I got my motherboard (Asus A7V333) a few months ago. |

you guys shouldn't waste your money on things like bartons and geforces. when the hammer comes out, the barton will be through. but, so will the p4. stay with the 2400+, and overclock it if necessary.
as far as geforce, the ati 9700 pushed them out, and the new r800 is going to DEMOLISH the competition. sucks to be nvidia ![]()

Lag about 6 months behind the latest technology. That way, you save lots of money, and it really doesn't make much of a difference.

I absolutely agree - I've just recently upgraded my computer to a 2.4 Ghz Pentium IV with a Gig of DDR 333 Kingston Value RAM. There is nothing that baby couldn't do, really. Going with the newest stuff is complete nonsense. ![]() |

This statement is invalid just because by now - it's simply a matter of choice. AMDs definitely have the better value/price ratio, the moboa are still a little cheaper, which means that you can build a fast system for way less than a comparable Intel system. I personally like Intel better, they simply 'feel' more stable, and have a wider base of software support. Hyperthreading will most likely become the new way CPU perform in the future ... AMD is still leaking behind with a similar technology. BUT they're more expensive ... on the other hand the new 533 MHz FSB Northwoods are mad overclockers. With the right RAM (and good cooling as well) you can achieve mad results ![]() Oh and I forgot - I don't think the newest AMDs are build using .13 micron technology, do they? |
