Your buddy grabs all the shit he can and runs out the store to his car and races away. You take the clip out (with rubber glove) and walk casually out of the store.
I think the scam here is that you're not mentioning how you'll get the shit electrocuted out of you!

I heard a guy put an ad in the newspaper claiming to have a 'solar power clothes dryer' for $499.

He made over 25k and sent his customers a 50' rope and some clothes pins.

hehehe

The best one I ever heard of:

A guy sends every restaurant in the US he can get an address for
a letter saying "It was no problem when the waiter spilled the drink on me, but I would prefer that you paid my Dry Cleaning bill."

He also sent a nice looking Dry Cleaning Receipt "Printer Copy" for $13.56

The guy received 2,000 checks per day for nearly a month.

He only got caught because an accountant that worked for two separate restaurants noticed the same exact receipt.

No one remembered the drink spilling, but it sounded like it may be legit. It's only $13.56, it's not worth the trouble trying to fight. And if they did, he just threw those away

The "gazump" in a "sales theatre".

The actual sales presentation was scary, to say the least! It used tricks of carney flat games (where it originated) and involved a carefully orchestrated series of events by a group of professionals that resulted in a crowd of people spending much more than they ever thought they would for stuff they had no use for. Items such as a $10.00 "Guaranteed Aurum-Clad Necklace" (translate that as a fifty cent gold-plated peice of shlock that turned green within a week of wearing).

It's illegal now in New Orleans (and many other cities) after years of complaints by people that got taken by it. The use of crowd hypnosis was proven to get the legislation passed but it was actually their failure to refund the disgruntled that was their undoing. But, of course, nearly everyone was disgruntled once they realized what "Genuine Capistrano-like Ceramics" meant.

The best scam is debit card fraud.

Some fuck made a copy of my card last year... I don't know how they got my pin. Asshole took $1800 out of my checking account in three days before I noticed. I'm lucky I caught it. I only had 10k in that account, but my credit card was attached to it. They could have taken me for $30 just like Quiet. My bank did cover it though.

This scam will not go away until the banks put chips in the cards... which will happen in the next two years. Europe already did and it eliminated it. Until your debit card has a chip... be VERY CAREFUL WHERE YOU USE IT.

yup, i got all the money back. it worked out to 36K... at first they wanted to wait until they'd completed a fraud investigation (3 - 4 months), but when i told them i'd be pulling everything out of my accounts and never deal with them again, they promised to reimburse me within 48 hours.

bank fraud is definitely a huge ongoing scam in Canada - the corporate security guys i've talked to at my bank say it's just getting worse each month.

This is a clever one.. especially if you worked in a company and could send those letters without paying for your own stamp

"The guy received 2,000 checks per day for nearly a month."

... if it takes 5 minutes to cash one, 2000 checks would have kept him busy for almost a week ...

One of my favorites was the guy who took out a number of ads, for "building your own home brewery" The plans costed $19.95

Then he went to his local library and photocopied a book with the plans... He made close 500k. Then the writer of the book found out, but was a nice guy and only sued him for half...

1. Get the new Instant Fly Killer! $19.95 works every time!

The package shows up in the mail and its two wood blocks one has an A on it and the other a B. The instructiosn read;
"Place fly on block A and hit with block B".

2. A guy put an ad in the paper sayin, "Send me one dollar and I'll send you nothing". Really! Guy made several thousand dollars from it.
I had a friend that worked in the Main Post office in Los Angles years ago, he told me some funny stories about scams, Like what you posted. The thing is these people open PO box''s all over the place. I think the best was this guy took out ad's in papers all over the country. Send your dollars to Peter Perfect. Well it happens the guy's name was Peter Perfect.
