How long to wait for DNS changes

I have a new server and changed the DNS on a few domains a few days ago. The changes showed up in the whois database in yesterday morning?s update at about 05:50 EST.

In my experience, once the changes show up in the whois database, traffic starts going to the new server within a few hours. But it is now 30 hours and still no traffic to the new server. I am getting anxious since I have never had to wait more than a few hours to see traffic.

Has anyone experienced this before? What is longest period you have had to wait for traffic after the changes show up in the whois database?

i've seen it take up to 72 hours to fully update, but you might want to double check those dns designations.
