NaughtyAllie Goes 4K!

We just posted our first 4K update last week and received a lot of positive feedback from our members. From this point forward we'll be shooting all of Allie's video in 4K. Although it's obviously not realistic to stream true uncompressed 4K over the web for most users, even the compressed version looks way better than a vid at 1080p. You can take it full screen on a 27" monitor at 2560 X 1440 without seeing any degradation in the video quality!

NAUGHTYALLIE'S FIRST 4K VIDEO

Feedback, comments, discussions, questions?

I'm going to give you some honest feedback...and this isn't trolling.

If that video was worth watching, I wouldn't give a shit if it was 4k, 2k or whatever K.

That?s what I?m looking for here, ?honest feedback?. Everyone has varying opinions on the adoption of a 4K workflow. Personally I feel we?re just moving forward and keeping up with technology and what the consumer will be demanding very soon. I remember when we were early adopters of HD video and everyone was saying SD would remain the standard on the web for years to come and HD required too much bandwidth for the web. Well, HD gained traction a lot faster than expected (on the web) and is obviously now the standard for any website. I feel that's where we're at right now with 4K moving in to dethrone HD. It may take a little longer but at some point the consumer will expect 4K video. It will no longer be a bonus, it?ll be a requirement. I know right now if I click on a thumbnail to view a video and find that it's an SD video I'm disappointed and wish that it was HD. It won?t be long before that same scenario will apply to 4K and people?s expectations.

With broadband getting faster and faster and available to more and more users it won't be long before it'll be time to go back and re-render our existing 4K videos at even higher resolutions where you will really see the difference between HD and 4K. It may take a year, 3 years, 5 years but in any case I?m future-proofing the content I?m shooting now. When I watch this source video on my 5K iMac full-screen it's so crystal clear that you almost feel like you're there. As more and more people adopt 4K televisions and monitors it won?t be long before 4K is the standard. Even now, being able to full screen a video without it degrading is a huge bonus as a user.

Would love to hear more feedback, comments, discussions, questions?

Fun video, but the video quality itself isn't that good. It looks like very compressed 2k at best. Detail in the image seems smudged, the frame rate seems low, etc. Is it possible it wasn't rendered correctly? Make you can put up a couple of links to the same video with different quality settings so we can give you feedback on the difference?

As I stated in my original post, we obviously can't stream true 4K shot at 100MBps. That being said, there are 4 different quality settings available in the video player:

Best = 10,000 KBps
High = 6,000 KBps
Med = 3,000 KBps
Low = 1,500 KBps

I could obviously crank up the bit rates when rendering but of course as you know that will increase the file size. 10,000KBps seemed to be the magic number when it came to a trade off between quality and file size.

and that's my issue too....to put 4k up on the web takes massive compression, so any pixel depth gained will be squashed during that process. Also, how many people actually have the monitors to appreciate the quality increase? Even 2k isn't necessary at this point, and if I watch something on ePorner and they have the option for 1080p I go for 720p at most because I don't want any loading problems because of file size. The quality difference is barely negligible to me (or maybe I don't care), and I'm a digital artist who deals with pixels all day.

I'd much rather have the bandwidth go to higher frame rates...now that's something cool because it makes the action look more lifelike.

But my main point was I don't think that's a great video. I'm sure that chick has an audience who will drool over that, but I want to see hot young 20 year olds with perfect bodies oiled up and getting fucked. For me, Lubed.com is an example of someone with the right idea. They can do 4k because that content is awesome looking, but I wouldn't care if it was standard def because the girls are hot, and there's some great moviemaking skills on display.

the core product is king...who gives a shit about all of the gimmicks?

Instead of fixed bit rate you can try constant quality, it will choose the correct bit rate need for the quality you choose

Lagged and sound didn't match.
As a consumer I would have clicked away.
I prefer videos that actually work correctly and don't look like 8 bit videos from the 70's
So IMO you're trying for too much at this point.

I had some issues as well playing it.

Could be many things.

1. My connection, ( something surfers wont admit.)
2. Your server ( too busy or slow? ) Not accusing
3. other? Not sure of the settings on this video. Others mentioned the sound being off etc.

For me the colors seem a bit washed and could have been brightened.

Would love to chat with you for a few min about the settings your using and what program you using to make the videos.

I have been making some of these for a while and Im always looking to share settings and learn new ones.

Skype is in my sig.

Welcome to the future. You are a couple of years too early. Massive overkill for 99.9 percent of the monitors online. Besides isn't 5K the next biggie?

Based on the feedback in this thread it looks like I have some tweaking to do for our 4K delivery. That being said, in your comment you're thinking like a webmaster, not an average consumer. Sony, Samsung, Sharp, etc have all done the hard work for us. With their advertising campaigns, they're convincing the public that they need 4K and based on the research I've done it looks like 4K is really taking off and that's in spite of the lack of content currently available. Just walk into any Best Buy and you'll see the vast majority of their TV's are 4K and they're practically giving away HD TVs

Now that the major TV/Monitor manufacturers have convinced the general public they need 4K, you can call it a sales gimmick if you like but if a site "A" has 4K content and site "B" has only HD content, all other things being equal the consumer is going for site A, period. Even if there is no visible difference between the content the consumer has already been brainwashed to believe they need 4K.

I don't think I'm a couple of years early, I just think I need to tweak some settings on the encoding to resolve some of the issues noted in this thread. Was hoping ********** would chime in on the bitrate settings we're currently using or offer any of his knowledge of video to help improve what we're delivering.

I don't think anyone in this thread actually got my point.... which was that the content itself is boring. That's all that matters in the end. The product. Not how you dress it up.

I understand she probably has a fan base who loves her, but what about bringing in new viewers? By telling them you can now see a mediocre video at 4 times the resolution and bandwidth suckage?

Granted that wasn't the most exciting preview clip on the site but the way we've set up the Free Guest Area is for it to show the first 2 min of each video. In most cases those first 2 minutes is enough to get them hooked in and wanting to see more. That particular clip may not have been the best example of that however it was the first 4K video we've shot and posted to the site therefore that's the one I linked to in order to solicit feedback on the 4K video, not so much the actual content, but I understand what you're saying.

I'd welcome any further feedback, comments, discussions, questions, etc regarding the 4K aspect of this clip. Or 4K in general.

Hi Jake,

I tried it again and this time changed it from "auto" to "High". The image detail is much better. The frame rate is a little jumpy on my 2009 Mac, but much better on my 2011 Mac which has a better gpu I guess. Very cool!

By the time 5 K comes out, it will be obsolete, in favour of the "next Big Thing "

Thanks for taking a look again. That's good to hear! I know you're a video guru, do you think we're in the ballpark with our bit rate settings now that you've had another look. Any suggestions or feedback from you on our set-up or streaming 4K in general would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Also, I can't replicate any of the issues reported above. I have a 175MB download connection and I've checked the vids using a 2012 BTO maxed out MBP as well as a brand new 5K iMac with the Skylake chip, SSD, and 64GB of RAM. Do you think the issues reported above have to do with the users connection speeds and/or their computer specs? If that is the case then I'm going to need to do something to reduce the workload on the user end and the only thing I can think of would be to lower the bitrate which of course is going to lower the quality of the video which defeats the purpose of offering 4K in the first place.

Best Regards,
Jake

Yes, thinking like a webmaster. I ordered a 4k monitor a few weeks ago the price was about $400 and change. A fellow I know that does documentaries is keeping 4k at arms length for a while. I understand the cutting edge thing, but HD is just maturing now and the quality is outstanding on 72 dpi monitors which most everyone has. Until the price of 4k monitors fall to the level they are now, nothing is going to matter. You will hurt your presentation if you are not 100% at the level of current HD and since the perception of quality will be the same, any lagging, jumpiness or loss of definition will count against you. So in the end, you will only have the marketing sound byte of 4K. Of course, I do wish you all the success and applaud the effort. Everything worth a shit comes out of the porn community. We drive the new stuff before anyone else. I don't know how much a 60" 4K television is going to cost at Costco or if there is even anything to watch on it. Between 3D, 4K and Virtual Reality, it's going to be a technological toss up as to what shakes out.
