Is there no-one Google won't rip off?
The US Supreme Court has ruled in favour of Google in its 11-year legal battle with an authors group. The Court said it would not hear an appeal from the Authors Guild, which claimed Google breached copyright laws by scanning books without permission. The technology giant began the process in 2004, so it could include extracts in a searchable database, and it was sued by the Authors Guild in 2005. The Supreme Court's judgement is the final ruling on the matter. Google wins copyright battle over books - BBC News

Google is just a new type of ''bookmobile."" You could make a few screenshots but you cannot download and redistribute the books. Get over it ... Maybe, the courts in places other than the USA will rule differently? Then the information will not be accessible free on the web in those countries. You will have to go to a library that has the book and borrow it to read or buy it.

Yeah! Who needs computers ... Most Google Books that I have seen have been very dated. I don't think I recall reading more than a page or two -- but that is me.

The organisation's president Roxana Robinson said: "We believed then and we believe now that authors should be compensated when their work is copied for commercial purposes". Common sense. This is the problem with having technically uneducated people making decisions in the supreme court, House & Senate. They've done a lot of damage to our country the last 20 years and for the generation to come.

 | The reality of this is technology has changed our business model. Not sure about anyone else, but I read constantly (I just downloaded a book about the Russian space program, and next up is about Lita Ford) and I use Amazon Kindle (which carries over to multiple devices). I don't pay for books any more, but pay a monthly fee. It's pretty cheap too. Technology is changing everything. It was bad enough when suddenly we started paying for television in the 1980s thanks to cable TV, but now even that business model is going to change - Between Netflix and Amazon Prime and Hulu.... I no longer really need cable, and it's only a matter of time before we drop that. Music too - I use Apple Music and I can stream anything I want instantly for one low price.

Being able to preview books on both Google and Amazon has only encouraged me to buy those books, as opposed to the ones I can't see. I'd think this was a win-win for author, distributor and buyer.
