Today at work my wife found a bank deposit bag with $5k in it. She was quickly able to figure out the owner and called to return it... This is the second time it's happened to her in the past two years.

Return it right away. I had something similar happen, outside a bank and this old man dropped his bankroll of loot I picked it up and yelled at him. probably a couple k .he offered me 5 bucks as a reward on which I refused also

You never know, who this belongs to/what they were going to do with it.
Of course it is possible that if fell out of the wallet of some billionaire, but in most cases its a very big amount of money for the owner and they wanted to buy something special.

If you did not work for the money, you should return it.

I don't know US law, but where I am from you can give it to the police and if the owner does not show up, you can keep the money anyway.

I would try to return it. Part of me would want to keep it, but if I had lost money (I have in the past $300, not a lot) like that I would want it back too.

No, I would contact the person and return it. If there wasn't any contact info on the bank bag (they usually have deposit slips though), then I would let the doctor's office know I found something of value, and leave my contact info. I could never live with myself if I kept it.

Now if a bundle of cash or drugs washes up on Miami beach...that shit is finders keepers. Trust me, it happens A LOT in Miami, too.
