Chirac, who Thursday blocked EU attempts to sketch out a plan to rebuild post-war Iraq, said there was "no point talking about reconstruction while we are in the midst of destruction."

Sounds like a perfectly good statement to me. They didn't want the war in the first place (for whatever reasons).

Who knows if Iraq will even be liveable by the time this is over. If someone fucks up and nukes the place, or lets out some evil bio-bugs... they can talk about rebuilding in ~10 years.

Finish the war, let the dust settle then organize the rebuild.

It really doesn't matter. Nobody will ever notice what France is doing. They're angels and are only taking said actions because of a terrible predicament that the US has put them in.

It truly is all about the oil. Go France!
