Should a members area have a dark background or a light background?

For a video members area is it better to have a dark background or a lighter background?

I would think dark would make it easier on the eyes to watch videos, but lighter bg might seem more fresher.
what do you all think?

What colours were you thinking of using? When you say lighter, what colour? Darker, what colour?

Dark: Either Dark gray like GFY, or Navy blues.

Lights: Just off white and light blue like Facebook colors

I don't know if you want to know for aesthetics or wondering if it effects retention? I used to keep numbers on every little thing like this and colors of join links on tours and whatnot just so I could eek a half a % out for people. I haven't done that type of tracking in some time now, but I can tell you that - for whatever reason - dark backgrounds had a plus over light ones on sites that were more hardcore or fetish oriented and the opposite held true for sites with more of a glam style type content.

For what it's worth anyway...
