Did she really say they should tax the wealthy 100%? And the really scary part, she's considered "Intelligent" for her generation, and she still thinks like this. The millennial generation is a waste. They'll forever be known as the entitlement generation.

You mean since he didn't coddle her and lob her softball questions, he's a cocksucker?

Backward thinking like that is the root of the problem. You can't offend the dumb girl so treat her with kiddie gloves and don't grill her on her stance? ::ERROR::

She made herself available to be called out on her opinions.

I think he was justified in giving her a dose of reality.

USA is the only country in the free world that doesn't offer free higher education to our citizens.

perhaps if it was free you wouldn't be so fucking stupid. although i doubt you'd cut it.

But her solution to where all this free funding is supposed to come from was based entirely on taxation of the one percent.

With the help of my hard-working, middle-class parents - I put myself through college. I worked many years prior to college, saved up...and worked during co-op work semesters to continue funding myself. I didn't turn to someone and say, "I feel entitled...gimme more from the millions you've worked to earn."

Don't get me wrong - I think tuition these days is disproportionately and astronomically high and has crept beyond the reach of many. But imposing absurd "success taxes" on people who have worked their asses off (and/or invested many years in their own education) to reach a high level of income - isn't the solution.

Sorry, but she just struck me as another representative of the entitlement generation.

she was cornered into exclaiming that and clearly was not expecting the interview to swing that way. and she's not running for an office, she's not a politician and this isn't gotcha political journalism. she organized an event and she's not a professional talking head politician, and i'm not going to hold that against her.

you're free to have your opinion on it and i'm fine with that. i'm not fine with being told my thinking is backwards because i can see the benefits of free public higher ed.

and i paid for my college education, my parents/family did not pay for jack shit.

It's not free in Canada. It is subsidized but the student must still pay a portion of the cost.

I think making it free devalues it for everybody. There are already too many worthless degrees out there and many universities are becoming nothing more than cesspools of leftist indoctrination and brainwashing. Most undergrad degrees have no real world value and do not add to the productivity of society.

Having said that I think it is too expensive in the US. Subsidize the useful degrees and make people pay a premium for the "boutique" hobby degrees.

Bullshit. There is nothing wrong with deducing an argument with the socratic method. I was just commenting at how polite he was to her. Cornering? No.

I never said your thinking was backwards.

But I *am* surprised that despite putting yourself through college...you support this girl's position of entitlement.

I'm in total agreement of course that there's obviously benefits to free higher education (or at least more affordable higher ed) - but not at the disproportionate expense of people who have worked long and hard to attain a higher level of success in life.

The question will always remain - where should the funding come from?

Cornering? yes.

this has nothing to do with the socratic method. the simple fact is politicians across this country are running campaigns including making public higher ed free and they have outlines re: covering the costs.

free public higher ed isn't this girl's idea, headsup.

and raking her over the coals over the cost is completely disengenous.

I call bullshit on the "free education everywhere except the US" statement. Maybe in some countries it's 100% free, but EVERY COUNTRY other than the US - give me a fucking break? And I didn't have to worry about a free education, I paid my own way with hard work, a lot of sacrifice, and student loans out the ass. I graduated with a Bachelor's and was working on my MBA. 100% paid for by ME. I didn't ask for any fucking handouts or freebies. So I already "cut it", pal.

It takes an intelligent, and educated person to understand what happened during that interview. You understand, and described perfectly what transpired during that interview. But other, less intelligent people, think she was "cornered". I'm not naming any names, but his name starts with d and ends with yna mo.

jtfc, cry about having to pay your own way somewhere else. and you obviously did not cut it. you flunked out of an MBA program.

In all fairness I got my entire education paid for by the government up until my last semester. I got pelle grants and grants from the state, too. Plus lower tuition because it was an in state school. I lived at home and only painted houses on weekends; and my mom was in school, too, concomitantly, so technically we were below the poverty line. This was under clinton and I don't know how much things have changed, but it wasn't bad then. The system seemed to work just fine. I got my edumacation for a few thousand dollars essentially.

Also, when I was in HS, being a mechanic or going into the military was my only option because my grades sucked. I worked at a garage after HS and delivered pizza pies. Then when that got old and I was tired of my parents on my case I went to community college. The problem today is everyone thinks they need a degree. They don't. More people should become trade/craftsman. College isn't a right and when it becomes one your degree will become worth less and less. But the more things change the more they stay the same: auto mechanics and soliders are needed like they were when I graduated. Everyone thinks their stupid liberal arts degree will get them a job. It won't. Splitting the atom will. A friend of mine has two phd's in biology and is teaching a bunch of angry jive brothers in newark. She says everyday--wtf did I do. Not everyone will be sucessfull taking the path most traveled. Also, parents need to wise up too that college isn't always the answer.

the cost of a college education has outpaced inflation by a factor of 5x.

i think this movement is a rally against that.

"With the federal debt at $16.7 trillion, student loan debts measure at 6% of the overall national debt. This is no small figure, and national debt carries many consequences including slowing economic growth (translating into fewer jobs being created) and rising interest rates. Capital will not be as easy to access.

The majority of student loans are backed by the U.S. government through banks like Sallie Mae, or since 2010, by the Department of Education. Translation: the creditor in this scenario is the U.S. tax payer, who if students default on these loans will be subject to carry the burden of these loans."

but clearly, bullying a college student on a FOX news editorial over taxation is the answer.

There are still plenty of scholarships, grants and state schools. The people who want it free don't want to work for anything. They just think all their problems should be solved by someone else. Further-more there are at least 7 European countries where you can study abroad for FREE. Granted you have to pay your own living expenses. (God forbid.)

Everyone gets a trophy has ruined the American spirit.

If anything I would suggest students who went for a liberal arts degree or some other totally worthless degree track start a class action. I am sure they were not told, as they should been, that their degree makes them unemployable.

If anything I would suggest students who went for a liberal arts degree or some other totally worthless degree track start a class action. I am sure they were not told, as they should been, that their degree makes them unemployable.
free tuition doesn't = free diploma. the students still have to actually earn the degree by learning and passing their [free] courses.

If only I'd had the foresight in 1989 to know that in 2015 there'd be a movement for free college tuition.

Could've used that tuition money to start my company sooner.

Oh, damn...wait. My company would've become successful much sooner - and now I'd be paying 90% income tax to fund the next generation of entitled college students.

So thankful retirement is looming on the horizon. This new funding formula really makes my head hurt.

I don't think taxing most of rich people's income is the answer, but students shouldn't need to spend half their lives paying off interest on a loan for something that is way more expensive than it should be. There should be some kind of subsidies for college (even partial), but be prohibitive for the ivy league schools. Let the elitist Richie Riches keep that for themselves.

so this is a racial issue? USA shouldn't deal with spiraling out of control higher education costs because 85% of the blacks at a jr college chose a career path you disagree with?

Free college means higher enrollment, less committed students, and much higher drop out rates (I mean it's much easier to drop a class you didn't pay for, right?). This will greatly diminish the already questionable quality of education. The schools will have to hire more faculty to keep up with the influx of students. More tax money will have to be appropriated to pay for the increasing cost of a free education. Corners start getting cut by universities as budgets start to get whittled down, and the overall quality of output drops so significantly employers no longer look favorably upon a college graduate for open positions.

I always looked at college as something that wasn't for everyone, and something you had to make a strong commitment towards. So many times I've heard students say, and I've said it myself, "if I didn't already pay for this class, I would drop it!" -- take away the admission fee, and what's to stop them? Give anything away free, and people will expect more. Make them pay, and they'll appreciate what they have.

perhaps if it was free you wouldn't be so fucking stupid. although i doubt you'd cut it.

education isn't "free" anywhere in the world... the difference is that here students pay for their own education directly, while in other countries they pay for their education through higher taxes... so end result is about the same...

there are however some benefits to paying it yourself, some Rob pointed out above.. if you pay for it yourself, you are more likely to take it more seriously, more likely to put more thought into choosing the right major, more likely to pursue a profitable degree, more likely to graduate, more likely to actually use the degree after you graduate, etc....

i think you can grasp the point i was trying to make when i stated we're the only country in the free world that doesn't offer free higher ed. in a ridiculous thread like this, where i'm told i have backwards thinking, i'm not going to handhold fuckwads that insult my view through a thoroughly fact-checked post. they can simply gofuckthemselves.

most importantly, if you want to start splitting hairs on fact-checked posts, you might want to start with your own "some benefits to paying for college yourself" points, none of which have any factual support, not to mention any logic, i.e., why does anyone even pass elementary school since they don't have to pay for it?

and Rob's view is he had to pay so everyone else should also, let's not beat around the bush about that.

either way. Cavuto is a fuckwad cocksucker for cornering that girl on richy rich tax percentages.

and plenty of very smart people can grasp the benefits of free public higher education, maybe it's rocket science at teh gfy, who knows. just like elementary school, intermediate school and high school are free.
