Most military people (that are career types such as I was) are somewhat familiar with the various branches aircraft, some more than others, but I for example was Airborne Infantry and aircraft identification is not a course that is SOP for the Infantry and would be even less so with a Transportation/Motor Pool unit. In addition weapons systems of the various fixed and rotary wing aircraft is something one might be somewhat familiar with, once again some more than others, and the same applies to Armor, and Artillary. One receives rather specialized training and is only truly familiar with those aspects of their training.
