I'm happy to be the one to break it to you, $200,000 electric super cars are not the solution to anything and certainly won't be replacing ice cars.

All of us will be driving electric cars in our life time. Even the new houses they are building here locally ALL have solar power. This will be the standard.

You might want to research that further. That's speculation by a wall street guy on a vague sentence in a forward looking comment by another finance guy. You're completely insane if you actually think BMW will be all electric by 2025.

ICE Cars are so old, fugly, smelly, expensive, and stupid. They are extremely inefficient and waste a shitload of energy, and require hundreds of moving parts, lube, and other crap. ICE cars will always be a few around for the nostalgia lovers, but they are on their way out, and car makers know it. Good fucking riddance, I say. I'll never buy another ICE car.

thats a nice looking car indeed, but if i m gonna buy a sports car then its gonna be real sports car with real engine , exhaust and performance which wont die on me after 200 miles .
not some electric toy.

anyways to each his own.

p.s. i do like electric cars for local use .

edit: after reading that article, it looks really good. with

With 15 minutes of charge, the car can travel about 400 km

depends on how many years does the batteries last ?

Great looking car but 5 years behind Tesla at this point.

Most likely by the time they produce that Tesla will have moved beyond them.

What is the impact of air conditioning on the batteries? AC must eat a shitload of energy, especially in the summer days, so I wonder how many km it can run when it is 36°C outside.

How does the push for higher taxes and the push to get people to buy a $200k environmental friendly sports car work side-by-side?

How many gas stations do you think were around when gas powered cars first started hitting the roads?

You realize gas cars have only been in mass use for about 100 years?

no, we won't.

Even in 2040, according to forecasting agencies such as the U.S. Energy Information Administration, cars with gas or diesel engines will still represent some 95% of the international car market.

I am not talking about amount of the stations. I am talking about the electricity needed worldwide to allow replacement of gas cars by electric ones.

There are trends to save energy, so we dont need nuclear power etc. But with millions of electric cars there will be a serious increase of power consumption... or you think those will be powered by all "green" energy?

I'd be interested to see the price point on this. It looks amazing for sure. I really love the BMW i8 and rumour has it, BMW are working on an all electric BMW M9 concept, if they pull that off then the EV market is going to be stacked.

It doesn't just go from no use to full bore.. It will build up to it. As far as power plants even China has stopped building new coal plants. No one can expect overnight change, but it's happening..

I know this much...during the summertime electricity is at a premium because people are running their air conditioning. It puts the power grid at maximum use and sometimes overloads it.

Huge changes will definitely have to happen if electric cars become the norm. Solar and other energy sources will have to grow fast.

more spin.

reality:

according to U.S. government projections, China will add yet another U.S. worth of coal plants over the next 10 years, or the equivalent of a new 600-megawatt plant every 10 days for 10 years.

more spin.

reality:

according to U.S. government projections, China will add yet another U.S. worth of coal plants over the next 10 years, or the equivalent of a new 600-megawatt plant every 10 days for 10 years.

China's Growing Coal Use Is World's Growing Problem | Climate Central
This touches on something that I have been mentioning for a while now.

While the United States and European Union can always do more to help our environment and cut overall pollutants, the big impact countries over the coming years are going to be: China, India, Brazil, and other former less developed countries that are now becoming developed.

We can spend like crazy making the United States and European Union more efficient (which I'm okay with really,) but unless we are able to curb these other growing countries, our efforts are going to make minimal impact.

that's what makes the op so bizzarro! if only those USA republicans high-5ed crockett on global warming, then China wouldn't be using exponentially more shit tons of coal than US, while our coal consumption is going down.

but hey let's all get electric cars so we can get that coal usage back up.

Let's not forget India which is set to overtake China as the world's largest importer of coal. They also have hundreds of new coal fired power plants planned for construction.

not some electric toy.

anyways to each his own.
You do realize that electric cars can out accelerate most ICE cars, right? And since sport / muscle cars use a lot of gas, you would save some money in energy and still enjoy performance.

But anyway, as you said, to each his own..

First. LOL! ok, I laughed, you got me.

The volt isn't very sexy on the inside, but anyone who knows me will tell you that I appreciate what's on the inside. The volt is "smarter" than most ICE cars, which is why I traded by Camaro for it. I'm a fucking nerd, and to me, brains = sexy.

And actually, the Volt isn't a Hybrid car. You can drive on 100% electricity only. It has an electric engine that turns the wheels, and a gasoline-powered generator that kicks in to drive the electric motor when the battery becomes depleted.

I don't like the design, too "cosmic" as from futuristic movies.

Yes but you live in Vegas.. There is a whole lot of city then nothing, so there isn't a lot of options for pulling power from other areas as it's largely isolated.

You go to say the east coast and we don't have those problems because they can more easily divert power from other areas to help cover shortages.

Not spin, I was wrong about it.. I remember reading that China had banned building new coal plants. It seems that they only banned it in large city areas, but are still building them in rural areas.

See if I'm wrong I'll own up to it, unlike others like AaronM for example who just calls people names and runs away to hide from the questions..
