A basic starter package of 50 credits costs US$59.99. Sending a message costs five credits and replies are free. But if the message is marked ?priority,? the site deducts an additional five credits. And many new users miss the fact that their messages are automatically marked priority by default, unless users make a point of changing their settings to turn the default option off.

But many also complained they were unaware of another default setting, one that automatically charged their credit cards for a new package of credits, once credits ran out ? at a cost of US$79.99. In a few minutes, with just a few messages, the charges could quickly mount to US$140. With a few more messages, some 20- to 50-credit ?virtual gifts? to the ladies on the other end and some time spent in a chat session (30 credits for 30 minutes), the client could find himself having burned through more than $500. There was also a US$19.99 activation fee for the mobile app.

while leaked internal documents from the company appear to suggest that it was sometimes computer algorithms that were automatically generating the flirtatious responses to eager men. All but one of the unnamed former employees interviewed say that this technique was widely known among Ashley Madison staff. One alleged that the photos for the profiles were sometimes taken from the free-licensing area of the photo-hosting service Flickr. Another alleged that deactivated accounts were recommended as a photo resource.
Gee, I'm shocked at their sleazy business practices.

Not.

They should have been taken down based more on ethical reasons, rather than moral.

Pisses me off because I thought they were one of the good guys....Delivering on their promises.

Why is everyone in this industry some damn greedy? The owner isn't a successful business person...He's simply a scum sucking lowlife who has managed to take fraud to a corporate level.

This will have bad repercussions for the Dating Industry.

Sites that don't deliver something fast, will find members cancelling faster.

What gets me is why aren't more in the adult dating world offering greater incentives for real female members? Sure usually the women don't pay and so there is no direct profit but they really help with keeping men rebilling and for the future viability of the business. They ought to be paying affiliates $5-$10+ for female frees.

I guess fraud might be a challenge but I have the feeling that many now see their dating sites as legacy due to sites like tindr. They are basically taking what they can get and not doing a lot of new things. The funny thing though is that I still can bring in new sales. It's not as easy as it was but people still are paying...

Not many understand what a bot is or remember or notice this on the media.
I remember lots of cases of fake profiles and bots allegations in dating sites before, not going to put up a list, but some made headline in the media as some are or was in stock exchange... use google.

We, the webmasters, will read and understand the details, i.e:

Ashley Madison Code Shows More Women, and More Bots

"after looking at the company?s source code [...] evidence that Ashley Madison created more than 70,000 female bots to send male users millions of fake messages, hoping to create the illusion of a vast playland of available women."

The db shows 20 million bot messages and 11 million bot chats. 20 million men out of 31 million received bot mail, and about 11 million of them were chatted up by an automated engager.

Also read the comments of the article: "What about the Bots Seeking Bots section?" - "OK I checked in the database ... and YES! There are 69 (yes, 69) instances where one bot chatted with another bot. It must have been a bug in 2008, because it happened a bunch of times during that year. So indeed there was bot-on-bot action."

So the wifes find the male users email in pay users list, this cause a divorce, but the members are double screwed since they really had only talked bots, just the intention to have an affair was there, which may be enough for a divorce but, poor them.

But the question is, did the bot couples do the deed?

Part of this whole concept is probably why they never were called out in the past.

Guy signs up to the site. Maybe he chats with these bots for a bit, then feels guilty, never follows through. Or if he did choose to pursue, obviously he is talking to a bot and somehow gets rejected.

These guys probably found a study somewhere or did some kind of research and discovered that even though people may think they want to cheat, they have a difficult time following through with it, leaving a huge opportunity to pray on these men's fantasies.

The whole thing is kind of ironic because it plays on the morals of man.
