They all look like tubesites. No info, no interaction, nothing, just a bunch of preview thumbs. Surfer clicks on a thumb, expects to see a free movie, like on the tubes. He noticed: wtf, i have to pay for this! Leaves the site, bye bye surfer.

I'm sure they convert but the OP has a point. The new way of paysite previews are stupid. Like it would kill them to provide a 30 second preview clip rather then just redirecting them to a join page. I think the OP is trying to say the paysite previews are deceptive and potentially turn away legitimate signup guys who thought they were going to get a preview but were fooled to click on the preview that redirects them immediately to a join page

And you don't think the big guys tested this? Why is it stupid exactly. Trailers can kill a site indeed.

Now you can of course not like them yourself but a personal opinion is worth little when you have stats at hand. Deceptive or not, in the end it doesn't matter

Like I said, it converts so at the end of the day, that's all that matters. But from a surfer's perspective, you do lose some legitimate clickers who would have signed up but decide to leave when they feel deceived into clicking on what appears to be a "preview" clip only to redirect to a join page. That's just leaving money on the table.

I don't agree with the notion that Trailers can kill a site. Trailers if done correctly can draw more potential customers to sign up to a site. You can have a nice Join page underneath the preview video which is not intrusive but it's there with the trailer.

Here is an example Digital Playground. Look how flawlessly the preview clip is and join page is integrated together. Absolutely a work of art to draw potential customers to join up

That depends.

You often see these tube tours promoted on tubes. 1:5000 can be good for tube traffic based on pure volume

In general a 1:5000 is terrible. Even these days.

I promote some of your sites and the conversions are pretty bad. The retention however is very good.
So it is not the content but maybe the tour itself.
I like the digitalplayground tour better because the surfer stays likely longer at the site because there are more things that have his attention (i think).

conversions vary per webmaster and site. We have people doing 1:10.000 and other doing 1:10 or better. Contact us ([email protected]) if you would like us to take a look at what you are doing.

I'm still saying that 1:5000 is bad. Not counting type ins

And edit: What sites are converting bad for you? I see only Rodox is doing bad (not 1:5000 though bad though).

Those tours are often designed for people coming From tubes so no need for a trailer, they just watched clips. Many sites have alternate tours for type in traffic with trailers. Look at Brazzers then add /tgp/ on the end, 2 different tours.

Then as Roald said, trailers don't always mean sales even on type in, affiliate traffic and more.

Do those newish sites promoting members areas designed for tablets/phones convert well? I like that kind better than the tube model..

btw, one model that I made and tested out made 375 sales and 740 rebills at 1:1250. I've been lazy working on other things but if anyone wants to try it out, PM me and I'll tell you how. The trick is to make your own tour style landing page that's better than the original or whatever's on the tubes plus a couple little details..

It works. We are all testing new ideas all the time but so far, that kind of tour makes you money.

This is exactly what I'm going to do on my new site.

In the meantime, conversion rates are still good on my site, it's only the traffic that's low

I always thought paysites should offer different entry pages.

On a different note I do observe adult just does not pay top bucks for designers anymore.
