On Clinton's watch, the CIA instituted a special al-Qaida unit that thwarted several deadly conspiracies, including a scheme to blow up Los Angeles International Airport on Millennium Eve, and plots to bomb the Holland and Lincoln tunnels in New York as well as the United Nations building. Timely intelligence also prevented a deadly assault on the Israeli embassy in Washington. As early as 1996 -- as reported by the Post and other publications -- the State Department and the CIA began to neutralize dozens of terrorist cells overseas through prosecutions, extraditions and executions quietly undertaken by allies on every continent, from Albania to the Philippines.

A month before Clinton left office -- and nine months before the planes hit the World Trade Center and the Pentagon -- those successful operations were praised by the nation's most experienced diplomats in this field, including conservatives. "Overall, I give them very high marks," said Robert Oakley, who served as ambassador for counterterrorism in the Reagan State Department, to a reporter for the Washington Post. "The only major criticism I have is the obsession with Osama, which has made him stronger." Paul Bremer, who also held the same post under Reagan and later was chosen by congressional leaders to chair the National Commission on Terrorism, disagreed slightly with his colleague. Bremer told the Post he believed that the Clinton administration had "correctly focused on bin Laden."

Other than that, I wouldn't trade one Bill Clinton for a hundred George Bushes.
No you wouldn't !!! No quantity of "BUSHES" can match one "CLINTON"

Hehe, I tought you said you would, but now I see you said you wouldn;t ....

I believe that the day you take the Oath of President and you get done with your camera spots and signing everything you sign on the first day and finally walk into the White House pumped full of hope and determination...
That the CIA and the FBI and all of the existing "behind the scenes" advisors sit your ass down and say "Now that you're President, there's a few things you need to know, sir..." and proceed to tell you things that rock your entire fucking world and change everything you've ever thought was true and would turn your hair white if it could do so in an instant.

And that from that moment on, every decision you make and every word you are about to utter, you have to keep in mind those things that you're now privy to but cannot tell the American people... all of those things that you had planned and all of the things that you had promised and you have this vast network of knowledge at your fingertips but you can't make a fucking move because there are things at stake and things in place that *no one* knows and *no one* will ever know, that to reveal these things could very likely bring about the destruction of everything we believe to be true and shake the foundation of the world as we know it.

And all the while, while you're trying your damndest to do your best and walk that precarious line, you know that you've got armchair warriors who don't even have a pretense of a clue judging your every move, people who didn't even graduate high school much less attend college critiquing your every word. That the lives of thousands of men and women rest on your shoulders, that the safety of millions more depend on those rare moments when you can actually sit in a quiet room and think about everything that's been laid upon your shoulders and the events that have been laid out before you... but no one will *ever* understand, no one *could* ever understand, until they have taken that same Oath and been presented with those same earth-shattering facts that you were on that one day when you were so full of hope and promise.

So sit there in your comfortable chairs and pound away on your keyboards, where your most frightening thought is that you'll get ten less signups tomorrow than you did today, and judge what you *think* the most powerful man in the world is doing and his reasoning behind it.
And then get down on your knees and thank whomever it is that you believe in that you're not in *his* position, but instead in your stupefied bliss of thinking you have half a clue.

why not insulted France, they are ass holes, will be coming around with hat in hand *Again*. Hope Bush is still in office so he can tell'em keep on walking. The French have been pricks for years. From the 1960's that I know of. Shit they kicked Nato Hq. out of Paris and Franch in the mid 1960's said they could stop the Russian's if they invaded, did'nt need anyone's help.. Idoits. they couldn't have wipped there way out of a wet paped bag.

Idiots??? Were they invaded????

You see, they didn't mean with arms ( like your GI JOE president) but with diplomacy,; in fact, at the same time, Kennedy did the same and averted a " nucular ....hehe" war....

Yes idiots, they were going to stop the Russinas with talk. Think they tried that 2 times with the German's. They did not say they would stop'em with talk. They said that there Military could stop them. Go find some old Stars and Stripe *READ*. I remember reading it 3 or 4 times, and laughed my White ass off along with a bunch of other Troopers. We thought it was funny as hell. Maybe I should have said Stupid Idiots. Such thing as a Stupid Idiot?

That's very nice - wrapped up in a package for us but unfortunately christmas was over a few months ago. While the average american may not understand what you said, i doubt any serious presidential candidate is ignorant and doesn't know that. If you get the job and find out you can't handle - then resign. A metaphore about a kitchen being too warm comes to mind. Noone said being president of the united states was anything short of the worlds most difficult job.

I understood his point just as well as anyone else. I however, believed it to be too idealistic. If you're president you don't get extra points in my book because it's a difficult job.

These threads are humorous when Repub PORN PUSHERS (that 2 threads back bragged about getting a piece...) Cry about Clinton doing what he did. lmfao Is the President supposed to be a Super Human? Are they not allowed to suffer from tension?

Yeah maybe Clinton screwed up that way (I'm surrrrrrrre no OTHER president has done that...cough...Johnson...kafff... Kennedy....cough...lots of others) But he is and was human. I'd prefer the President messing around, than to have one that does nothing but compound screwups one after the other.

Being President requires at least a base knowledge of politics, which obviously this pres doesn't have...his staff either doesn't OR he is choosing to play his big guy on the block attitude and ignoring them.

Let's just sit back and wait to see what he does with Bagdad... He has 2 choices, charge them, or sit back and wait for them to come out. And *I* don't want to hear the warmonger talk from the little children that couldn't even win a GI Joe doll battle, never have seen a gun or never have fired one... and the best part, never been shot AT. Only a small number of you are even qualified to discuss war. If you want to be qualified to flap off, go sign up and then talk to us in 3 yrs.

Maybe if they reinstate the draft & lottery, alot of you war hawks will have something more important to think about eh?

(You are there are actually sick mother fuckers like that don't you?)

Cause otherwise pal - you'd better hope Bush knows exactly what he's doing - and that's a fact - or we all might be in a world of shit.

You're damn right I support him!!!

Beside... the debate is over now anyway.

Genocide on a race based on the actions of one, a few, a handful or even the majority is just not right.

The world itself would be a wasteland real quick in the hands of someone like that.
Who said I want to kill them all?
Just send them all to saudi arabia, there's more than enough oil to feed them all....

Hey isn't this the premise of the movie Men in Black?

I support Bush 100% in this. He is much more informed about the facts and situation than any of us on this board. Anyone is entitled to disagree with him or criticize him but the fact is you don't have the current intel that he does and you never will (I know that probably hurts). This war and the Bush administration has become such a partisan issue with BOTH sides throwing around so many falacies and incorrect information that it is no longer worth debating about.

BTW Carrie nice post. There are many decisions that have been made by different presidents from both American parties that I thought were odd or disagreed with. I always go back to that premise that they are much more informed (intel). They have access to information that we don't. And they are making a human decision based on their opinion which might be different from another presidents' point of view.

And everyone who talks about sheep... Keep believing what you want to, you are just sheep from a different herd. Tone down the arrogance, everything you think you know that the rest of us "sheep" don't is only in your mind. You're not the independent thinkers that you think...

Ok, that's my rant. Off for a nap...

*edit* BTW all the peeps from 'passive' countries who talk shit about the US, FUCK YOU. You're clueless.
