Ever had an ulcer?

I know this isn't the best place to find medical advice- but I know some of you are stress monkeys too, and I'm in pain.

What's it feel like? My stomach just really aches. I just ate a very healthy meal, and my stomach hurts almost as much as did yesterday after I ate poorly (coffee, etc) and couldn't keep it down.

Go buy a book

Healing Back Pain - The mind body connection by Dr John Sarno

Its mostly about the back, but deals with the whole body

Once you learn the secrets, you'll be pain free.

My dad suffered from terrible back pain for 10 year, i bought him the book, 2 days later he was fine, that was 2 years ago.

Pain is for the weak, dont be weak. buy the book

fnet...

Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well The symptoms for ulcers are usually pain in the upper part of the stomach, nausea, vomitting, and intolerance to certain foods. But, these are also the same symptoms for GERD (gastro-esophageal reflux disorder).

Either way....go see your doc. Good news though...if it is either of them, there are decent meds on the market that can usually clear things up.

Main thing...dealing with stress. I know it isn't easy, but both of those are stress-related. Be good to yourself and hope you feel better soon

i had a bad acid stomach for quite a while, which the doctor said usually leads to an ulcer if not dealt with. It was making me throw up regularly. I was smoking, drinking too much coffee, too much fast food, drinking too much etc.

best thing is see a doc, although cutting down on all the above will help, drink loads of milk and eat healty food, and get some antacid from the pharmacy. but if it don't clear up in a few days go to the doctors, you don't want an ulcer

getting my girlfriend to move in with me and cook me proper meals everyday helped big time too, so if you haven't got a woman make that top of your list.

Milk & dairy sets my GERD off like nothing else. Once after eating a cheese pizza it felt like battery acid eating away at my esophagus. It got so bad while I was in the store buying antacid that I hammered 1/2 a bottle of Pepto in the checkout line.

Tagamet is great by the way, but if you have an ulcer or GERD its only going to supress the symptoms. You still need to see a doc.

losec (omeprazole) is as close a thing as there is to a magic pill in medicine. Very effective and minimum to nil side effects.. ask your Doc about it.

yeah i hear what you're both saying, i did a search and it looks like milk has a ph of around 7 normally, which means it's neutral (although it said the lactose in milk turns into lactic acid as the milk goes off). i think the reason it helped me was because i would often get acid stomach when i skipped a meal and dosed up on coffee and lots of cigarettes (i nearly said fags, but that means something else in america i think, labrets comment would have been more helpful then). and the milk just gave the "battery acid" sometrhing to eat rather than my stomach lining. i don't know if i had GERT, but it was nasty shit all the same.

That's funny- I've suggested using an exercise ball to a few other people on this board, although mine is on the other side of the room at the moment. That's great that you're using it for- hmm. I've gotta see that.

I'm eating only fruit and soy shakes now. Zero caffeine. And I feel excellent.

It's looking like I have a rare genetic anomaly where a lot of my blood cells are rounder () than the average person's, which are toroidal -> ][

These round cells don't get through my spleen as easily. Blood breaks down faster causing high billirubin, or jaundice in severe cases. It can cause gallstones, or a big spleen, either or both of which might be my problem.

There are consequent changes in the body- bones are more developed, longer. Vertebrae may be differently shaped. Brain case may be wider.

In almost all cases, it's people of Northern European descent who have this (about 1 in 5000 in the U.S.). My father has it- pretty sure my grandfather has it. If it goes all the way up my male line, I would have gotten this from somebody like Richard the Longshanks. It's said to be in the one of the autosomes rather than an X or Y chromosome, so perhaps this is not likely.

Oh, and Labret, you've gotta stop looking at gay porn all day. The pink scarf doesn't match your armband.
