Bush: Monday 'a moment of truth' on Iraq

"LAJES, the Azores (CNN) -- President Bush said Sunday the opportunity for a diplomatic solution to the confrontation with Iraq would end Monday, calling it "a moment of truth for the world."

Scary time. A lot people are going to die. I hope Bush knows what he is doing, Saddam will spare no effort to make this painful on all including his own people.

Ahh...yes...it is time for the talking to end and let our troops do what needs to be done so that most can return back home. This war, in my considered opinion, is the best choice from a list of poor choices.

Rather than flame you, this time I will ask you a question.

Do you think, with the 2004 election coming up quick, that Bush will try to start another war right after this one is over?

His popularity on domestic issues is not re-election material. One war wasn't enough to help his father. I'm curious to see what he will do. What do you think?

I do not believe for a moment that any President uses, or even could use war (our system provides to many blocks against this ever happening), as a means to re-election. As to another war prior to the re-election time, if Korea cannot be talked down, I am of the opinion that it will have to be taken down. The USA cannot allow that country to aquire massive amounts of Nukes and an ICBM system (and they are apparently working on this capability) that can reach out and touch us. Hopefully they can be talked down, as a war with Korea will cost many lives (99% of them being Korean lives) and will be disruptive to the world economy.

As for Bush being re-elected I think he may very well not be re-elected, but one problem with this is, I am not happy with the Democrat's contenders, or their message, at least up to this point in time.

Fair enough. You don't think there is any chance Bush will find some reason to go after Iran just in time for 2004? I'm still not sure what his re-election plan is, but I certainly wouldn't put anything past him.

That's a decent point. So far, the Democrats running haven't had too much exciting to say. I think that many of them are afraid of going after Bush during the "war", which is another reason that it's possible Bush will want a perpetual war. It's a lot easier to get what you want when the opposing party is afraid of challenging you on certain issues.

What do you think of Lieberman's chances? He pisses off some Democratic voters, but he's a strong supporter of military action in the middle east.

I think that there will probably be a Jewish president in our lifetime, I just wonder if Joe will be that man.

It's still very early in the election to know what's going to happen.

Subject: Address to the Nation

"My fellow Americans, I have a number of important announcements to make today.

Effective immediately, I have ordered all American armed forces out of South Korea and will cease all aid to South Korea. The South Koreans have made it clear that they do not need, nor want, our support. South Korea -Good luck with your North Korean neighbors.

At the same time, I would like North Korea to know that we have targeted all major North Korean cities and military installations with submarine based nuclear missiles and any attempt by them to attack the US or any US ally, and I will order a full and complete launch of our missiles. In addition, if North Korea ships any nuclear materials or weapons to any country, we will launch the missiles. Please note, South Korea is no longer considered a US ally. Good luck in that regard.

I am also closing all US bases in Germany and returning our troops home. They have decided that they no longer need the US as an ally unless it suits only their interests. If it is in the best interest of the US, then we must go it alone. So we will. Goodbye Germany and watch out for the French.

I would also like to announce that, effective immediately, the United States is suspending membership in the United Nations and will cease all payments to that organization. They have proven to be silly and ineffective and a waste of your taxpayer dollars. In addition, we will s ave trillions of dollars in aid that we spend annually to assist those United Nation countries who need it, and depend fully on the US to take care of all their needs.

The United States invites the United Kingdom, Australia, Turkey, Italy, Spain, other willing European countries, and former members of the eastern block who are now free and appreciate the price of freedom, to join a new alliance - NNATO (NOT NATO). This new alliance will always support each other, hence the term - alliance. France, you are on your own. I suggest you form your own alliance. Perhaps Normandy would be a great place to start looking for members.

With regards to the war on terrorism - I am notifying all nations who have supported, funded, and protected Al Qaida, that any attack on the United States or our citizens abroad, will result in a tactical nuclear retaliatory strike on the capital of your nation. As you might recall, immediately after September 11th, 2001, I stated that you are either with us or against us. You have had ample time to make your choice. You can now fully, completely, and honestly, cooperate in shutting down Al Qaida and other terrorist organizations or suffer the same consequences that we have suffered, at our hand.

In closing, I would like to say to Hillary, Tom, and the other Senators who have gotten us into this mess....Your visas to France and Germany are ready to be picked up.

God bless the United States of America"

George W. Bush

I think that North Korea will become a priorty after the dust settles somewhat in Iraq and will be delt with either diplomatically or militarily if an agreement cannot be reached. I am of the understanding that Iran is becoming a more moderate nation and are seeking closer ties with the US, and the younger people want to persue that position even further. From what I understand they are working on a Nuclear Power Plant, and when that plant becomes operational, if they make the mistake of producing Nukes instead of power and begin persuing the production of ICBM's they too will have to be delt with, but North Korea is far ahead of them in this area.

I am not any more pleased with Lieberman than any of the others at this point in time, but I suspect that Kerry may end up being the leader of the pack. At this point it is just too early to say.

I don't know about that. A couple weeks ago they said the 17th. Today they just said tomorrow they have to decide. Tomorrow is the 17th.

theking,
Don't forget that Bush pulled the Congress into a nasty vote just before last years election. It was all of a sudden a must for Congress to vote on action against Iraq. That was obviously a politically motivated decision. I agree with you on Iran, and on N. Korea as well.

As for the Dems on the ticket, no one stands out to me either at this time, I do know that unless he is against Sharpten, I'm not voting for Bush as long as he keeps Asholehahahahaha as he AG.

theking... you are up there with some of us in the age thing... and have lived thru the various wars just as we did... down deep inside, (above and beyond the military side) isn't there something nagging at you about all of this? The hubby has done his part for the country and there are few that are more warlike than him that I have ever met, yet he says something is biting him down deep about this whole deal. He'd charge h*ll withOUT the proverbial bucket of water but said he'd not touch this one.

Especially after learning that the top Syrian government officials just mysteriously 'dropped' in on Iran today for a "visit". We didn't care for that vote in Congress handing Dubya the right to start war anywhere he chooses. ALL of the blocks and balances were removed when they did that vote. By the time they could vote to pull that power they handed him, he'd have us commited.

Too many of these warhawks on here have no idea what war is like. (Not that *I* do) but I have seen it thru his eyes and heard it in his words. Yes, we have to do something and soon. But to start taking down country after country in a row will create more problems in the long run. It needs to be dealt with by the World as a whole, not one idiot from Texas who can't even fly a jet fighter (yet has his fighter wings) lol

BTW, the great USA has NOT paid their UN dues in years. We were millions behind several years back.

in 1812 we were just sittin' around
minding our own business,
puttin' crops into the ground.
we heard the yankees coming
and we didn't like that sound
so we took a boat to Washington
and we burned it to the ground

hahaha. Bush's saber rattling on Iraq was what kept the constant stream of bad economic news off of the front pages in the months leading up to the mid-term elections. The Republicans would not have done nearly as well as they did without it.

Before it started looking like the Repubs were going to take a big hit, Bush was relatively sedate and quiet about Iraq. When the polls started swinging against the Republicans in the months leading up to the election as a result of a constant barrage of bad economic news, all of a sudden there was a constant stream of "Iraq this, iraq that and iraq the other" press releases from the Whitehouse.

It was obviously calculated, because it was so well timed. One press release every day or two, usually in the mornings. Just enough to keep the bad economic news off the front pages and out of the lead stories on the networks.

Kinda surprised the media went along with it.

Scary time. A lot people are going to die. I hope Bush knows what he is doing, Saddam will spare no effort to make this painful on all including his own people.
So? Saddam has already killed tens of thousands of his own people and will continue to, cant we stop this?

Yes there is something nagging at me about this pre-emptive invasion of Iraq, but I have thought about all of the different scenarios that I can think of and without detailing them all I have concluded that invading, removing Saddam and his political party, attempting to establish a democratic republic and positioning ourselfs strategically is the best choice from a list of poor choices and this includes being the best choice for the Iraqi people, for if things go well they will have a much better future than they have ever had in their past history. There just are not any good choices, in my considered opinion.

There is a great risk to this action, some of which are known risks, but there are the unkown, unforseen, unpredictable risks. Time and history will be the judge.

if thats the reason to go to war, why not go after every country that kills their own people?

Actually the above applies to any military operation, big or small.

It is difficult for me to understand why some of you people are so obessed with PF. It is difficult for me to understand why you cannot accept the fact that a seventy year old man died of a stroke. Doing a quick search of PF's posts I quickly found at least one post where he had spoke about having had strokes.

On 07-02-2002 PF posted this and actually understated the extent of damage that having strokes had caused him. He had many strokes over a period of several years. It was clear to those that knew him that his memory had been affected, but probably not as clear to those that did not know him as he would have appeared to still be sharp to them. The last stroke that he had prior to his death left him partially paralyzed and with slurred speech. The doctor had told us that he would undoubedtly have a stroke that would kill him and there was not alot that could be done about it. We, the family, were prepared for his death on any given day. He also was a diabetic. At least two people that are members of this board knew him (three counting me) and at least one other member other than myself has posted that he is in fact dead. Read it, learn it, know it and get the fuck over it.

Actually this is new information that I cannot recall ever hearing about. I am old and I have had a few minor strokes that have affected my memory to some extent, so I am not intellectually as sharpe as I used to be. It is possible that this info disappeared as did the "piano lessons".

I am intrigued by it and will read some more about it. One thing I did run across on one of the links:

http://www.thethresher.com/indiscreet.html

"The most frequently cited and circulated source of Bush-Nazi investigations/conspiranoia, George Bush-The Unauthorized Biography (a biography of George Herbert Walker Bush) by Webster Griffin Tarpley and Anton Chaitkin, published in 1992, while well-documented, is also the most suspect. The problem is that Tarpley and Chaitkin are colleagues of the political cult leader Lyndon LaRouche. Not surprisingly, they insist on overlaying otherwise solidly researched data with wildly speculative interpretations. The book, originally published by LaRouche's Executive Intelligence Review, though "out of print," is ubiquitous on the web, and freely used and quoted by Bush conspiranoia buffs of all persuasions."

This makes me think that alot of what is said about this subject will have to be taken with a grain of salt, but apparently the government did take control of the company.

Thank you for the compliment. PF was a great man, a unique man, a mans man, and a warrior. I have spent most of my life trying to emmulate him (unsuccessfully I might add), may he rest in peace.
