Where do those followers come from? They clearly worked with a large cam platform first to get those.

So short term they will make more from the guy or guys they take to Skype, long term they will get much less customers and probably overall less take home earnings. Staying busy on cam and making money requires a lot of traffic.

I guess if you don't care about Microsoft and world governments having access to your webcam show activities this is just the thing for you. Customers to care ... We, as a camsite, offer privacy protection to both customers and camgirls. Microsoft does have a commercial interest in these activities and will sell you out to the US government in a New York second.

Camgirls have had their messenger/IM accounts hacked as long as I remember (from 2001). Then there are the stalkers -- forcing camgirls to change their messenger account names.

My guess is how they have some sort of bridge to protect actual messenger id, plus that is required anyway for billing purposes.

I agree with vending_machine that these cam girls get a name in big cam sites first (some are even porn stars so got name in sites or dvd industry), then no wonder, guys learn of them and google them, so to find also their twitter accounts.

Ok, there is always that smart cam girl who will reply in forum that she never been in any cam site or pay site, and so made all of the username success herself; that's the 0.1% exception that confirms the main rule, which is, 99.9% of traffic is in big cam sites and you need to make an account as cam model there to get known in first place (and, being a star in movies helps too).

Further, some of these models started in studios who trained them and made them good photosets, in addition to register them in the big cam sites, so if these later quit studio to go home, then even later quit cam site stealing all the userbase from the cam site, well, ok that sure makes sense and she's smart, but, it would have not happened without the cam sites in first place.

Said all this, SkyPrivate is cool and Alex (the owner) is smart, and for what I know, universally hated by cam site owners (I don't hate him, instead, I talk him, why not, I even talk with pimps - oh wait, I am one too...).

just to add my point of view, as there will be many of you having different opinions about SkyPrivate or about models using Skype:
in the end, all that matters is that we (try) to make a platform that the girls need and love to use. we see this as the future. (see uber vs taxi companies).
as a company, we also try/tried to be very open and license our technology to cam companies - but they do not like us so we stopped that. but we are still open to do partnership with any serious adult company. (think ModelCentro, Customs4U and so on).

we act as a "cam site" with a different business model but we also have a classic affiliate program - if any of you have QUALITY traffic (members OR models).

I quickly browsed top 500 down to 5M followers (myke tyson is #500) and I seen no one related to adult. This is suspect...
At #1000 they got 3.2M followers. This includes indians, pakistani, filipino, brazillians etc. followers who are unlikely customers of cam shows. So I wonder what's a minimum of followers to warranty a $5k+/month sales to a cam girl? One can answer - enough 1 whale followe, and that's true, but this is fished from a sea of leechers.

Probably they're not banning adult accounts and posts also in a desperate attempt to limit the dramatic fall in usage. But in the long run I think either twitter dies (merged into facebook or google+ or so), or bans adult too (re-read this post after 5 and/or 10 years from now).

What I mean it is that you can't get viral as cam girl in mainstream sites and twitter alone seems not the future; so the main viral adult mrketing still happens in the big cam sites (or in porn tubes for hardcore stars, not for cams).
