News Porn site operator sues cybersquatters

Company goes after alleged cybersquatters of its adult site brands.

The company behind PornHub.com, RedTube.com and YouPorn.com has filed multiple lawsuits in U.S. District court against the owners of at least ten domain names it alleges are cybersquatting on its brands. The lawsuit was filed by Licensing IP International S.à.r.l., which is commonly known as MindGeek.

It's interesting that MindGeek didn't file UDRPs, but went straight for the lawsuit.

If the lawsuit is about 10 domains, it's just the tip of the iceberg. The number of exact matches, typos and other confusingly similar domains for popular tubes in all TLDs must be in the thousands.

The company is seeking control of the domain names and a penalty of $100,000 under the U.S. Anti-Cybersquatting Act.

In order to keep your trademarks safe you have to show you are enforcing them so even though this is just the tip of the iceberg it helps show enforcement if they ever have to fight for a trademark they really care about.

Yes, just like Apple doesn't own Apples.. Or McDonald's Mc or Donald's..

But they own certain trademarks related to those words.

I wonder if they sent them C&D's first before starting the suite. A lot of people don't check for trademarks before buying domains.
