I was going to start a thread about Canadian politics, but well, that's as far into that thought as I got!

Things look good for a shift this mid term

I voted for all non-incumbents. We have a couple of measures in Oregon that were pretty big. I voted for them as well. One is to have open primary elections and the other is to legalize weed.

Although we vote by mail so I actually voted about a week and a half ago.

Aw come on Bryan... I'm just asking who people voted for. The elections in the US are all over American AND Canadian news. It's going to be a really interesting 2 years politically regardless of who wins, right? I'm just asking the question, and keeping my opinions to myself as I promised I would from now on. Chill a little....

To answer your question, yes I voted in the last provincial election, but I did not vote in yesterday's school board election.

peace.

Well voting or even not voting can change the party in power...in this case the party in power of the Congress. If the Dems don't turn out in large numbers...as historically they don't in mid term elections...the Repubs will control both houses of Congress.

Voting has gotten very simple for me over the years.

Step 1: Identify Incumbent

Step 2: Vote Opposite

Step 3: Ignore Party Affiliation Except in Cases Of Third Party Or Independents, They Always Take Precedence Over Republicrats Or Democans

I voted for a mix of conservatives and liberals on the local level. I didn't vote for anything on the federal level.

We have reached a stage in US politics where one party must control both congress and the White House or there will be gridlock and nothing gets done. The Republicans are going to win enough seats to guarantee federal government gridlock until January 2017 at the very earliest.

A vote for Democrats helps to get things moving, but their pandering to illegal immigrants is a point of concern. If the Dems pull off a miracle and take seats you are going to see illegals pouring over the border in unprecidented numbers ahead of the expected amnesty. More crime. More drugs. More violence. More property blight. More crying for welfare cash from gringo.

There are no good choices this time around.

We can have some hope that when Republicans take the Senate, they'll actually try to be a party who can get some things done -- but we can bet they'll use it to go after the president. Even worse, they'll threaten government shutdown if Obama doesn't sign their conservative wet dream bills that come across his desk.

Say goodbye to any progress that's been made in the last few years. Just because Obama isn't well liked is no reason to go running to the conservative side. They don't represent progress. Just tax cuts and making abortion illegal.

tax cuts sound great, but there's too much other bullshit that comes with those turds.

You do realize he isn't like because of his policies right?

People are seeing they don't work, that's why we need the change he promised in the first place!

Do you have a talking point that is more relevant than something out of the 1800's?

I'm not against controlled legal immigration that brings assets into the country. What I have a problem with is importing Mexico's poverty class that is completely uneducated, doesn't speak English and possesses no skills. The truth is that Mexico's upper and middle class are loving seeing them leave the country. It's the equivalent of the US emptying out our ghettos and seeing them off to Canada.

US politics are more entertaining and full of drama and bullshit than Canadian politics; HOWEVER I must add that our Prime Minister has been cranking up his hard-on for US Republican ways and means lately so it might get more interesting up here... and Mark might start talking about that.

But actually, no... because Americans don't give a fuck about Canadian politics lol.

I was reading yesterday that Ted Cruz said the first thing the republicans should do is vote to repeal Obamacare. Even he realizes it will be vetoed and they don't have enough seats to overturn the veto. So he is calling for them to waste time. He went on after that to say they should vote on every single aspect of Obamacare individually after that.

He also wants them to start multiple inquires into Obama and his alleged abuse of power.

It sounds like he is calling for them to immediately go after Obama instead of actually doing something constructive.

Add in that the democrats likely learned a few lessons on obstruction from the republicans over the last 6 years so I have a feeling they will be more than happy to try to stop anything the republicans do.

I foresee continued girdlock for a while.

If Obama's such an idiot the first thing Republicans should do is propose a BETTER healthcare system for everyone. Shouldn't be hard to do right?

There was actually an interesting story I read about a week ago where a few different republican governors have said that Obamacare is likely here to stay. He said the cries of "repeal!" have died down and now come in the form of "repeal and replace." The reason, they claim, is that there are now 12 million more people who have health insurance than before obamacare. Most of those are poor people who are now getting free or very cheep medicaid style insurance. If the republicans suddenly just take that insurance from those people they aren't going to be happy.

The republicans have had a lot of time to come up with a healthcare plan of their own and have nothing. I have feeling if they started trying to destroy obamacare and don't have something better ready to replace it with they are going to run into some serious obstacles.

Yeah, nothing is working.

We're saving billions on two unnecessary military occupations, the economy is better, unemployment rate is down, we got Bin Laden -- and he's kept us out of several possible foreign conflicts that surely any Republican president would have jumped on immediately without thinking.

I'm listening to Mitch McConnell's victory speech and he's talking about "turning this country around". That means spewing as much coal emission into the atmosphere as possible.

At least he did say he'll try to work with the president instead of being an obstructive prick. I'll believe that when I see it. This guy is the problem with our government. Old-ass white men with old-ass ideas.

Looks like Scott will win and that cunt Pam Bondi win to in Florida. I mean seriously wtf if you are willing to put delay a mans execution conflicted with her own political fundraiser says a lot about you. On top of that looks like medical will not pass by 2% here in Florida

I just checked cnn.com and the headline says "GOP is almost there", referring to the fact that republicans need just 1 more seat to control the Senate.

No bashing in this thread, I promise. Just stating what CNN has to say...
