Exactly and their own popup is designed so when you click to enter your user name on the homepage 90% of the time you will click the banner, try it you will be amazed

"AOL said its pop-up-blocking technology differentiates between unsolicited pop-up advertisements and user-requested ones, such as windows popping up at banking sites. Members have the option of clearing specific sites for serving them pop-up ads. "
---------------------------------------------------

Well then the question in this case would be what differentiates the 'windows popping up at banking sites' from the ones they are blocking, now wouldn't it be? ;)

Maybe it's a "Always accept popups from bankofsomeplace.com?"

My guess is all the big browsers are going to put support for blocking popups while allowing other j a v a s c r i p t in the next versions.

My guess would be to search for the onexit condition. If someone is leaving a page and they get an exit, that's unsolicited (I'm guessing here). So popunders on entry will probably get around this but onexit popups probably will not.

if you REALLY wanna continue to pop shit on people there will always be ways to do it, might just have to stuff commands in cgi or php or in some fancy schmancy dhtml shit....

but yeh, AOL are total hippocrits, I think that they assume all the spam and popups is what drove a lot of their marketshare into the dirt lately! HAHAHAHA

they need to fucking wake up and realize that MS is in the process of OWNING their asses with msn, and people either got smarter and moved to juno/netzero for dialup, or got tired of dialup all together and went high speed by now....

you can tell they're hurting by their recent actions....

See that's why I never get upset by these little announcements.
So long as there is a way for one popup to occur then it's still open season.

Just finished playing with it. Killed the popups as said it would. You have controls to allow certain types etc.

This is why I think all those people that were putting up such a fuss over cashquests pop up kill program were so retarded. Get stupid surfers to buy it, and there will be ways around it to still show consoles.

Exactly, and there are new forms of popups coming up everyday, like the cascading consoles such as those used on AVNOnline or embedding flash objects directly on the content pages. So while AOL thinks they are doing a favour for clients, people will find more intrusive ways to market to end users by streamlining content and advertisements together.

I'm gonna research this a little and if it's filtering the HTML I'll write a little utility to use.
