pci network card dosnt fill out the pci slot?
Hey
I am putting a new network card in a computer, I cant get the card into the pci slot. However the slot is about ½ inch too long, the card however can still plug in. Is there anyone that can confirm, that that is the reason I cant get that shit to work? Thanks ![]() |

if this is not a joke it seems your mainboard has pci slots and your nic seems is a pci x4... and yes this is the reason why it won't work :-)

I don't have any PCIe 4X cards but I was able to fit a PCIe 1X card into a PCI32 slot. First time I've tried that... kinda scary that they still mate. (Note the mainboard was not plugged in.
![]() TommyM: PCI32 (the older style) and PCI Express are two completely different expansion slots which have different connectors and pinouts. If the backplate was on the card I doubt it would have matched. I'm amazed you didn't blow something up. |

Go ahead with this setup, some cards are indeed are shorther, usually the cheap ones.
There are some longer cards on PCI-X that are compatible with pci. |

(PCI Express is a stupid choice of name since it sounds a lot like the existing, but completely incompatible, PCI-X slot) |

The PCI Express card will not even fit in the slot. I have too a shorter PCI card that is working. ![]() |
