I have lived in two different ghettos and lived next to another. There is nothing wrong with not wanting to go through the ghetto. Anyone thinking otherwise has never spent any time in one.

I'm not scared of them, but they are not for everyone. Especially if you are jumpy and have white guilt.

No one invests time or money in a high crime area. Crime areas have much less opportunity for employment, housing, decent shopping and restaurants.

No investor in his right mind builds housing, stores or puts a business in a crime riddled neighborhood.

Sidenote: it is racist to assume that only people of color would live in an area to be avoided. The app is not racist but our perception of the US is pretty skewed obviously hahaha.

I recall a trip to Atlantic City a few years back - and was struck by the sudden transition within one block of the glam and glitz of the boardwalk...to rundown, seedy ghetto area.
