The least thing they could have said was, "We're sorry, we had no idea, it is being investigated." Instead they refused to comment. Makes one wonder.

I received that email. It looked very convincing, looked very authentic until it directed you to a URL in South Africa

The URL isn't in South Africa... the person is. The domain is hosted on Yahoo! Geocities.
