I thought that ISIS were Sunni and not as religious as the majority of Iraq?
Isn't that Hussein's people (Sunni)? I always thought they were the ones who wore military outfits and acted more modern as opposed to the Shiite majority who are bowing down to Mecca all day long and wearing robes.
Why the heck would a group of Sunni's suddenly turn into religious nuts? Or is this some kind of propaganda from the U.S. to garner public support to send troops in to prop up our puppet govt.?
The whole ISIS thing kinda surprised me. I watch the news every day. I had never even HEARD of this group until they had pretty much taken over Iraq.-Robbie

Sunni's are usually the more extremist ones. Wahhabism is an extreme Sunni "sect" with roots in Saudi Arabia(and the House of Saud).
Off the top of my head, I can't even think of many Shia who would be considered extreme or, rather, were / are apart of a "mainstream" terrorist network.
Saddam was secular in practice - He was apart of the, and leader of the, Ba'ath party in Iraq. A very secular, nationalist party focused on modernization. He wasn't really religious at all, in fact.
Edit: Wahhabism is where people like Osama Bin Laden, etc., come from.Comment

Ah okay. I was really only familiar with Sunni's because of Hussein and all his people. And they all seemed very "Western" and "modern" as compared to the Shia people I saw in news footage.
I guess every faction has it's "extremist" element.
I'm also thinking that the actual people of Iraq are with them out of a nationalistic sense of pride...they want their country back from the U.S. installed leader.
But if this story is true...I feel bad for the women there. It's gonna be a nightmare for them.-Robbie

For starters and oddly enough the chick in the pic looks very much like my current GF who isn't the hottest I've ever been with. I've actually posted a similar pic of her in the past. Secondly I live in a house on the edge of a river and a golf course within walkin distance from a metropolitan area in what is considered the "hipster" part of town. I did however have hotdogs for lunch, just because I was lazy and didn't want to cook anything else.
