Would America go to war with Russia?

NATO warns Russia over Ukraine as Obama mulls delaying sanctions.

United States may threaten to impose economic sanctions, but Obama will not go to war with Russia.

Probably not and that's good. The US doesn't need to get involved in everything.

War is not a good thing.

I find it highly unlikely that any war would take place. It's not a matter of who will win, it's more a matter finances. Russia seems to be backing down right now only because of the financial threat.

Russia is a nuclear superpower with 4,500 active nuclear warheads and they could totally devastate USA as well as the rest of the planet. So, stop playing.

Not too serious actually. The USA is far not largest trading partner for Russia. The EU and China is another deal, but these are won't support any sanctions that will backfire to their own economics. So in fact, the States have not much room for maneuver.

Netanyahu was quoted earlier this week saying when you have two enemies fighting each other its time to hurt them both. - (paraphrasing) Theres a lot of "shanking" below the waist going on but war? I dont think anyone can afford to go into all out war right now.

If US businesses plan to run ads in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post against sanctions on Russia maybe you're doing something wrong.

Two top U.S. business lobbies are preparing to publicly break with President Barack Obama over the prospects of more sanctions against Russia after months of quietly raising their objections with the White House.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and National Association of Manufacturers plan to run newspaper advertisements June 26 in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post, warning that more Russia sanctions risk harming U.S. workers and businesses, said a person familiar with the plans, who asked not to be identified to discuss private deliberations.

According to a lot of wall street analysts..... US is in a proxy war with Russia ie in this case mainly a financial war. However, US is dumb enough to play chicken with a nuclear egg.

Its only the western propaganda machine that tells us that the US has the upper hand. It looks that way if you watch western media but the truth is actually the opposite.

No offence, but that's a viewpoint that can ONLY come from western media indoctrination. The exact opposite applies.

It is Russia that has the upper hand, not the USA. Everyone in financial/economic circles knows this and its a main reason why the USA would never push serious sanctions like blocking Putin's travel or going after Putin's assets.

Relations between the US and Russia have hit a low point since Crimea got attached to Russia, so I believe we are already in a new Cold War.

Funny how your tone has changed, now that Russia had to turn tail. Wasn't but just a few weeks ago, you were bragging how Russia would take all of Ukraine.

How was it, I told you then that this would all end? I said Russia would eventually back down because it has far too much to lose economically. Russia isn't capable of being a world contender on economic market that is what the world is today.

Russia is essentially just a big oil/gas company but has very little market share of any other industry. Russia is worth about 200 billion a year for it's oil,and gas. While that sounds like a lot, the US for example with those same two industries is good for 1.2 trillion.

Russia doesn't have a lot of heavy hitting industry either, so they don't have a lot of options so Russia simply can not compete if the West turns on it. Putin knows this, so he talks tough and tries to use pressure on the local region, but at the end of the day, we see how things worked out. Ukraine lost some land, but they sign on with the EU.

Now Russia has another unfriendly country next door.. Russia is just a regional power that happens to have some big boy toys.

How so? Weeks into this and Russia seems to have given up on taking Ukraine.

Russia moved three older armored vehicles from Russia into Ukraine... And the West watched them do it and then called them out on it. This isn't the 1960s - We can see everything and report on it instantly.

So Americans saw 3 Russian tanks crossing into Ukraine. (Which is not true-> https://gfy.com/showpost.php?p=20122433&postcount=15)
but Americans did NOT see convoys of thousands of ISIS terrorists going into Iraq

For many, many reasons. This is not stuff you're gonna get from the mainstream but its very well documented.

The US is never going to military war with Russia, but they can attack Russia with Sanctions which have very limited effect as all the analysts are saying. They can increase sanctions, then Russia will fight back as it did with the China deal on gas ($400 bn) which is an attack on the Petrodollar. Russia & China also hold large amounts of US debt so you can get a financial, a proxy war and as the other guy said also a cold war.

Use of the dollar as a mode of payment for energy is the fundamental pillar of the petrodollar and the US economy. It keeps the USD as reserve currency and stops the USD from crashing. US has gone to war over the USD petrodollar many times. End of the petrodollar would be a disaster for the US economy.

Greater sanctions means Russia can unleash their hackers on US stockmarkets, bringing down US economy in a single hit. US can do the same to Russia but who has more to lose?

US is a 17 Trillion economy and Russia is less than 2 Trillion.

Russia can also easily fund militants in regions once invaded by the US. Politically, US will be obligated to send troops, engaging resources as is currently happening in Iraq and who knows where that will go. ISIS has just announced Islamic caliphate in Iraq/Syria so things are moving fast in the wrong direction.

List goes on and on and on........ the US government knows this and that is why they are not pressing serious sanctions on Russia. You'll only hear this from analysts so if youre just following mainstream press you wont catch the real story (read between the lines type thing).
